Question Couple Questions About Rattling

Ok...Im pretty new to all of this, but I did some research within the forums before posting. I have two 12" subs that are facing into the trunk of my '03 Civic LX. As of now, there is no deadening material used whatsoever, because I would like to get some questions cleared up before I go and buy materials that I dont need...

My trunk rattles...not too badly, but when the volume levels go up, so does the rattling. Ive pinpointed some of the sources:

- The area where the licencse plate is mounted, the metal seems to be very thin there. (Not due most likely to the license plate itself, I removed it and tested)
- Window tailight ?
- Something on the rear deck (probably a cable or something hitting the deck)
- The air vent flap on the driver side (you can hear it moving when you duck down near the left rear wheel)

OK...does anyone have any good advice for dampening some of the vibrations, especially in the spot right where the license plate is. It seems like only foam will work, because on the inside of the trunk the thin metal that the plate mounts to is mostly covered by metal braces. Also, how do you get rid of that plastic piece that is making the flapping noise near the rear wheel? I read somewhere on here that someone removed the piece, which was a plastic air vent cover or similar, but really no directions or anything telling where it is.

Oh yeah...one more question...I have always wondered if the increased pressure within the trunk from the subwoofers could damage or distort the rear speakers. Theoretically, the pressure should push up on the cone of the rear speaker whenever the subs are pushing air. Would this affect anything?

Go to the airtight trunk fix in the DIY section. It's really easy to do and stops the rattling that sounds like it's coming from your license plate area. You hear virtually no rattling outside the car.

As far as the back deck rattling... I have about 5 well-placed black socks shoved here and there and that pretty much cleared it up.

the hole youve gotta close though... i took out the plastic vent and drover without it for a day, it rained, and i had water in my trunk... if you do pull the plastic piece out, youve gotta fiberglass the area shut, and youve gotta do it well...

the rattle from the rear deck is probably coming from those small white pins that hold it down. theyre most likely not pushed in, so if u take it apart and push them into both sides, it shud help stop the rattle coming from the rear deck

Thanks a lot for the replies guys...I read about the DIY Trunk Seal, and I will try that soon when I get some free time. But the only thing I am still confused about is that plastic piece that flaps. Where exactly is it and how do you get to it?
