Head Unit Questions

I'm about to order a Pioneer DEH-P3500 HU. I know I need a wiring harness. Is there any special way to wire these? I know you go by color but I've seen some posts about the contact to power wires or something having to run to the battery or some crap like that. I wuz like woa wtf is he talkin bout? So do I just match up all the colors and it be all good or do I have to wire any certain wire a certain way...any input will be greatly appreciated! Yes I am a newbie...so please...be gentle!

Pretty much, the aftermarket harness adapter will give you instructions on what all the colored wires on the adapter are and you can just match them up to the wires coming from the back of the HU, using your HU manual to make sure that the wires match up to the ones on the adapter. Most of the time, the colors are the same, but you want to double check so you don't accidentaly connect the wrong ones. As for the power wire though, you will have to have a new wire that connects directly to the battery, 12 or 10 guage should be fine. You will have to just disreguard the power wire on the harness, usually the red wire, and tape off the end so it doesn't touch anything metal and short out something. When you are running the power wire, be sure to add an inline fuse if your HU doesn't already have one coming from the power wire connection on the back of the HU. My alpine did, so I didn't have to worry about an inline fuse.

Yukonart will become famous soon enough
Dood, 7GC9. . . spend a few extra bucks and step up to at least the DEH-P6500 . . . tons more features for the money.

3 set of pre-outs for future expansion, instead of 2 sets, an OEL display, and far more control over the sound quality of your music.

yukonart, pioneer has the fault of having TOO many features, and they end up being detrimental to teh SQ.

features are merely equalization with another name.

Yeah I'm either gonna go with the Pioneer DEH-P3500 or the Pioneer Premier DEH-P350. What is the main difference besides the cost and will they fit in my car without any modifications? And oh yeah I noticed that the HU deck kinda slants on the right side...will that cause a problem with the fit of the new HU???

I wanna add a point to this. The only HU's i've seen that require you to run a wire to the battery for power is those ridiculous, ultra-high powered HU's. Ridiculous because you can just use an amp and it'll still sound better than a high powered HU.

And just think how HOT the HU will get, trying to pump out that much power! Your cd's will NOT appreciate it.

And about those Pioneer units...why not get one that'll play MP3s? It's the ONLY way to go nowadays. You can fit more songs on one cd than an old 12disc changer!!

Don't worry about the wiring, between the chart that comes with the manual and the one that'll come with the harness, you'll figure it out. If not, just ask and we'll go over it with you, step by step. No problem.

But is there a piece to buy to fix that slant on the right side of the HU. Cuz i saw some pics where it is square...but umm if i took out the stock cd player..it wouldn't be a perfect rectangle...its slanted on one side...is there a piece to buy or somethin to make it look neat?

Go to Circuit City and tell the guy there what model HU you have and that you need a dash kit. They have their little book that'll give you the right dash kit. There's no cutting or anything required. Just use the pieces they give you and things'll work out fine.

As to your wiring... on the left side of this site, there's a wiring database. Use it and compare it to your installation manual that comes with the HU to connect the right wires.

With power, I guess there is a way to avoid running a line to the battery, but I'm still trying to figure that out. Do as ZSKCivic01 says unless you find out a way that I don't know of yet.
