underbody neon light install

i just got a couple of 18" underbody neon light tubes for my ride. im pretty good with body work but i have no idea how to wire these suckers. all i know is that the tubes each have a built in transformer and a black and red wire coming out of it. i want to be able to have them on without my headlighs having to be on, if not possible its ok, i also want to have a switch for them in the dash, what am i going to need to get and what should i do??

make sure you tap your 12v from something that is ignition switched cause forgeting to turn them off and having your battery die is a pain in the ***

so is the set up pretty much run a 16 gauge power wire from the battery to the switch in the dash. and from there splice it to get the two neons. and just ground the black wire on each tube. is that a basic setup or am i missing something?

damn i do this for a living now and i cant think of a easy way to describe this. The best way to do it is to connect the switch to a relay that will bring power from the battery when the switch is on and only if the car is turnned on.

ok that sounds simple enough to understand, if i use the set up of battery -- relay -- switch --- neons will i be good? when u mean car on do u mean engine running or just having the key in without actually starting the car

one last question, how does the switch work, do i connect it to the wire from the battery then it has an outlet or something to run a new wire to the tubes?

there are going to be little terminals on the back of the switch, go to radio shack and tell em what u are doing and they can sell you some connectors and a crimping tool and some other crap to make some really reliable connections.

you wont need a relay, and i'd step it up to 12 gauge wire just for good use. 12 gauge from battery to switch to red wire. i'd also reccomend you fuse it just in case. you can buy an inline fuse at radio shack for 2 bucks.
