Relocating the head unit?
Relocating the head unit?
Has anyone ever made a DIY for relocating the head unit to below the outlet. I've been searching and only found people asking for the DIY. I just wanted a more detailed way to do it.

its NOT easy. pull that panel off and yoll see large pieces of metal in the way. the only way you could really do it to get away with it would be to make the panel stick out a decent amount, speaking of which, i may actually tru it in the near future...
alright, the easiest way ive found to do it is to grab your lower panel, and cut out the inside. trim till teh radio fits through it, so you got a donut border of a panel. we hot glued barbecue squewers to hold the radio trim piece in the spot where the radio will physically fit back there. to avoid the metal piece we needed to angle the radio up significantly.
once the trim piece for the radio was on, we stretched our fiberglass over and painted it with resin. we thought we had to mount the radio using backstrapping, but we soon discovered the strength of our trim piece. it was enough to hold the radio itself, by the trim piece. a little nub in the back to hole the rear end of the radio up at the correct spot completed the radio mount. all we needed to do was to finish the panel, then we could snap teh radio right in, and then snap the panel in place, and we would be done.
after the initial layup, you cna smooth out the surface with bondo and sand it smooth. this will give you a paint quality finish by the time you get out a,l the pinholes and sand it smooth. you cna carpet, paint, vinyl, whatever you wanna do, do it.
then you cna simply snap the radio in place. i wish i had a picture of the finished product or even a pic of it in the car, but the best i have is the initial layup:
here you cna see how far out we had to have the radio sit, as well as how upangled we had to face it. but it looked fantastic in the car, i really do with i had a pic of our test fits.
