Will this work??
I recently got a 12" Alpine Type R(2ohm) sub. I was planning on getting two of them but want to do other stuff to my car before I really start dumpin. I need an amp and want to stick with Alpine. I looked at one and want to know if this amp will work with this sub. Its a mono Alpine V12 MRD-M300. I don't know to much about ohms and stuff but I know the subs RMS is 150-300 and the amp is 150x1 at 4 ohms and 300x1 at 2 ohms. I think I would run it at 2 ohms but I just want to know if this amp will power my sub decently.
Assuming your sub is a DVC (all the newer type-r are) you can wire it up to a 1 or 4ohm load. The Alpine MRD-M300 is a very, very nice amp, but is not 1ohm stable, and would be a waste of money to run it at 4ohms since you would only get 150w out of it. You will want an amp that puts out approx. 300w into a 1 or 4ohm load.
If you want to stick with Alpine, and plan to get a second sub in the future, you could get the MRD-M500 and wire the sub in series (4 ohm load) to receive 250w from the amp. Later on when you get your second sub, you could wire the pair together for a 2ohm load, getting the full 500w (250w ea.) from the amp.
I use to own the MRD-M500 and loved it! Best amp I have owned to date, but needed more power... They can be had online for under $300 at several online shops.
