It's just a measure of resistance. You can get more power out of a 2 ohm load, but you have to make sure the amp is stable at 2 ohms, otherwise I could overheat/blow/start a small forest fire in your trunk/etc....4 ohm loads run cooler, and pretty much every amp you find is 4 ohm stable, so it's all a matter of personal preference, I guess.....

A higher impedance also results in a higher damping factor, which results in your amp having more control over the subwoofer's movement.

If possible, i would run a 4ohm load, amps typically pull less current at a high ohm load than a lower ohm load. This will be easier on your alternator and battery.
