alpine decks capable of driving 2ohm loads?
alpine decks capable of driving 2ohm loads?
ok,
i have a cda 7864(old school Vdrive 27Wx4 deck) and a CDA 9835(26wx4)
anyways, i had the 7864 hooked up in my room and once accidentally hooked up a 2ohm load to it then cranked the volume to just below distortion...had it like that for about 10-20mins before realizing i had hooked the deck up to a 2ohm load..
i know most decks dont like anything less than 4ohm but the alpine never showed any noticeable signs of distress...it made me wonder what was inside it...
anyways, that was awhile ago and today i was bored so i looked up the datasheets for the amplifier IC's that are in my alpine decks...
the CDA-9835 has a Toshisba TB2901H and according to the datasheet, it seems to handle 2ohm loads
http://www.audiolabga.com/pdf/TB2901H.pdf
the old CDA 7864 (2001 model) has an SGS Thompson TDA7560 amplifier
http://www.st.com/stonline/products/...re/ds/6886.pdf
so i guess both decks are 2ohm capable eh?

ive had to hook up alpine decks to 2ohm loads on all 4 channels, they dont really seem to care. they still run hot though. 10-20 minutes wont hurt anything, but it's not something you want to keep doing.
read teh datasheets...the IC's used in alpine decks are capable of driving 2ohm loads...
i wasn't asking a question..i was just stating a fact...i guess it's not very interesting or even very useful but the decks are capable of driving 2ohm loads..

deck didn't get any hotter than it normally does...
btw, the cda 7864 vdrive deck doesn't even have a fan like the newer ones...heheh..
