possible? + some questions...
i really like the look of dual exhaust on the back of civics expecially if they have a body kit with the two inserts for dual exhaust. Here's my question, instead of purchasing a full tanabe catback system, can i just buy two tanabe axle-back systems and have custom pipes made to fit them? And if so, will the tanabe axle backs give the same performance, and sound that the single cat-back system would... ?? thanx
i know what your saying when you say you like the look..
yes it will work with 2 axle backs, but like fly said, you will lose performance if you are looking to strive some of that also..
if not, i say more power to ya!

The only way that you would ever be able to get performance out of it is if the pipe were so small to keep the back pressure. Like have a custom header and 2 pipes go to one exhaust while the other 2 go to the other. the header will come down to a pipe that is 1 1/8" all the way to the exhaust.
Then I guess you could weld on the mufflers.
But that would cost so much money it wouldn't be worth it at all.

after the time and money you spend on doing this, you'll prolly get the same amount of HP you get from just 1 tanabe system if your lucky..
you might wanna just stay with 1, but hey what can i say? its your car, and money.. do what you want and be proud..
alright, im finished talking now..
fly its your turn to reply again..

I know tanabe sells universal mufflers, which you will need. Axle backs cost too much. You can have 2.25 piping, just when the pipe split from the 2.25, go to smaller piping. That is what the stock S2000, V6 accords and all other stock duellies do. You will need an adaptor for the inlet pipe of the mufflers or a muffler shop can expand the pipe and make an adaptor.
There's a company that sells a muffler that has an optional extension for a second outlet pipe that simulates duals. That way you got one mufler, and two pipes and no losses. I think the extra pipe goes for about $85 or so.
You could also easily go with a dummy pipe on the left side. I think it goes with the Razzi kit.
My Firebird is sorta that way. They have one big pipe from the cat to a crossways muffler and then two outlet pipes to the rear.
Here's the deal.
"EXHAUST OPTIONS
Razzi offers the option of buying a simulated exhaust kit (2 each 13 inch, cone shaped stainless steel tips; with one bracket attached to one of the tips which is for being bolted to the Non-Functional driver side and a clamp for the other tip which is for the functional passenger side tailpipe). From the rear, it will look like you have a dual exhaust, but the driver side is Non-Functional. This simulated exhaust kit (2 tips with one bracket attached to one of the tips and 1 clamp for the Functional tailpipe).
There also is the option of buying two (2) 13 inch long stainless steel tips that are cone shaped and can be used as Tailpipe Tips by your muffler shop to custom make you a dual exhaust. These tips have a 2" inlet size and a 4" outlet and come with 1 clamp per tip."
