Question What is this supposed to be??

I was browsing through ebay and saw this post. Can someone explain the reason why this guy claims that a resistor will improve engine performance and therefore give more HP? I find it hard to believe.

I vaguely remember reading about this before... it has something to do with changing the values of one of the sensors that tricks the ECU into thinking the A/F is running richer, so it leans out the fuel delivery. I think thats how it works.. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it goes in the ATS wire. The ATS works on a temp vs resistance curve. If you put in the resistor, it makes the ECU think your air temp is lower, so the ECU will adjust as if you are running cooler air. There is some merit to the idea. There have also been many threads on this inthe past.

So is that the scoop? I causes you to run leaner? But since the engine temp isn't REALLY lower, won't that over time damange your engine....detonation and all that stuff?

If anything it would run richer. With a cold engine the ruel setting needs to be rich.

I'm not gonna say whether it will hurt your engine or not, because it isn't something I would do. However, there are other devices on the market that fool your ECU into allowing the engine to do things it wouldn't normally do.

If your ECU didn't control the air fuel mix, then a SRI or CAI would make your engine run lean also. That's one reason why you don't get much out of an intake on certain cars.

Running lean will cause running hot which can burn your valves.

What exactly resistor would you use to get, say a 20 degree F lower reading to the ECU?
