Kaminari Kit

Has anyone installed this kit on their own? I'm planning to install it myself and save me some money. Shouldn't be hard right?

Nice X, i like that kit j/p, ive done it before, if your getting the lip kit man it souldnt be that hard, its just double sided tape, ive heard that you should paint it firts before putting it on though. If i were you, id still get it professionally done cause i would screw something up, i know it, but thats just me

Do it yourself cuz it is very very simple. its best to do it with a friends though that way you both can hold up the lip kit. I did my own wings west lip kit in like 30 mins or less with a friend.

painting an entire kit should be around 400, that plus putting it on. I'm not sure thats what i was quoted by a shop around my town. I agree with Bowlcut7, i would feel better with a shop doin it, cause i also have a tendency to break and mess up stuff. But as long as you know what your doin, go for it and save some money.

The shop's painting it and installing it for 450.00.
**UPDATE**
They had a problem when buffing it so it won't be done until Friday now. When you go to get it painted be prepared for delay upon delay. If you get it back on time.... feel lucky.

i'd say do it yourself, i have the full kit which includes the full front bumper. As for the sides and rear the part that flares up along the door has double sided tape on it and your gonna have to jack your car up and use the many screws provided to screw and secure the kit from the bottom as well as 1 screw on the front and 1 screw on the rear of each side skirt. As for the rear you need 2 screws per side and the tape will do the rest. It took 2 hours doing it by myself and i used 5 screws to secure each skirt underneath the car. *****BE SURE TO MEASURE IT PROPERLY B4 YOU TAKE THE TAPE OFF!!!!! because if you dont do this right its gonna catch the door when you open and you have to redo everything. hi

I have the Kaminari Kit myself and my brother and I installed it....oh and Grey helped with the front end...dont want to forget that...

Problem with Installing Kit Yourself:

If the shop is going to bake the kit before they paint it, this could cause some problems if you install it yourself. When they bake the kit, the kit may change shape a little. So when you go to install the kit, you may need to have a way to heat the kit back up....

On my kit, there are a few spots that move off the car a little...I've worked on them and they are much better now...I plan on reinstalling the kit this summer when I can let the kit sit in 100+ degree temperature...

I would heat the kit, install it, and then clamp it onto the car and let it sit overnight...

Now of course you could ask the shop not to bake your kit...most smaller shops do not do this...but the problem with this is the oils from the plastic will run into "oooze" into the paint over time (if not right away) and it will effect your paint job.

FYI - When plastic is heated, the oils move to the surface and can then be buffed and washed off...Of course, you will always have some oils from the plastic...but the less the better.

Matt

Oh...and you also don't need to put any of the screws under the sideskirts into the car. Its fine without them.
