Are generic (cheap) parts ok?
A friend from school says he has the hook up from a shop in Modesto on intakes, headers, exhaust, I guess any bolt on metal parts. However, these parts are low cost generic parts; they're imitations of the real thing. I can supposedly get some imitation ground controls for 90 bucks. I'm a brand name boy, and unfortunately for my friend's logic, I prefer to pay the high prices for a quality part than a cheap imitation. So whats the real break down, are cheap parts a good or bad way to go, especially since my new 03 EX is my baby? I dunno, help me out here...i'd like to save some money without worrying about the quality of my parts.

you can get cheap quality parts.
its a bit tough but its fesible. some generic parts are just as good... some aren't. take a look at it and decide for yourself.
everyone always seems to think the "brand name" manufactures these inhouse... some do, some dont. some order from manufactures.. and they're just generic before they were stamped with a "brand name"
anyhow if you're happy with paying more money for the same product just cuz there's a brand name on it.. eh. okay.
I'll agreed that generally brand name products come across more quality control... but they really, really, really inflate the price along with the brand.

Its so true when ppl say you get what you pay for. I don't doubt he can get say a set of knock off ground controls for $90 I got sucked in on that crap before to with my first integra I bought cheap coilovers and intake the coilovers rode so rough my back would get sore and the intake was just a cheap piece of tin. When it comes to certain things brand names are the only way to go.

there are plenty of generic parts you can get that are fine. just when you start spending the big bux i would go with name brand for quality.....if its just cheap stuff like front strut tower bars, doesnt really matter just as long as it fits your intake.

SOME of the stuff is actually the same product with a different name but not alot of it.
With things like strut bars, ive got front and rear stuts and they work perfectly fine, much better handling...But as far as generic coilovers,
I would not buy something cheap because you know your going to get a horrible ride, they are cheap for a reason, not alot or no R&D is
going into these products....As far as intakes they are all pretty much the same, the only difference in the generics is the diameter of most
of the pipes, you wont notice but 1-2 hp difference....With exhaust id go with a brand name part too, but headers? they are all the same to
me.
