turn signal bulbs
i cleared my headlights and i have clear 7440 turn signals in. they only turn on when i have the signals on. i hate the look of having the orange bulbs in the socket cus it doenst look clean with the cleared headlights. so im wondering if anyone makes a clear bulb that flashes orange when the signals are turned on??
don't get the led's or the titanium type unless you don't give a rats *** if people can't see your turn signals. I tried both for my rear tails and the only time you could see them was at night......

Why don't you just put the factory bulb back in. Its clear and flashes that ugly yellow-white color. Or LED's could be another option for you. I don't know if you want blue bulbs or not, but I forgot where I seen these. But they make a blue bulb that flashes amber. So basically its blue until you turn it on. I think thats kinda cool.

People put the 7440 single filament so it is only on when blinking.

Actually, most LEDs that are out there emit a colored light Amber/Orage, Red, etc, from a CLEAR diode. You will not see any color until the LED turns on. If you don't know already, try a search on LED bulbs in these forums. I can verify that many of the statements made about LED bulbs not being bright enough are true....well....kind of: You see, an LED, no matter what kind, is EXTREMELY bright
when looked at directly center. If you are looking at an LED bulb straight on, it will appear brighter than a standard bulb. But, have you ever looked closely at your lenses? You see the bright shiney reflectors in there? When you put an LED in your lens housing, the reflectors are useless, except for reflecting back the ambient light and drowning out the LED light in the daytime. Our lens housings are designed for standard bulbs. Take a look at one of the newer cars that have LED lights. (Caddy, BMW 7 Series, Infinity G35) Do you see any reflectors in there? I didn't think so. You want a clear bulb that flashes amber.. Sure an LED will do that, but it will NOT be acceptable in the daylight.
Phillips makes what is called a SilverVision bulb. It is a silver coated bulb that does not reflect amber/orange light in your lens, but does flash amber when lit. The problem with these is, they are not made in 7443(OUR FRONTS) or 3156(OUR REARS).

You can always do what many BMW owners have been doing for quite some time. Get some Rustoleum High-Temp Silver paint, and LIGHTLY spray your amber bulbs to coat them. This will cut down on the amber reflections but still allow amber light to shine when powered up. I tried this, but did not find the emitted light bright enough in the daytime. But, this sprayed on method is still BRIGHTER than the LEDs in the daytime.

Or...You could purchace the APC Titanium coated bulbs. These are similar to the Phillips SilverVision bulbs, but APC is APC . I have ordered these and will let you know..I have heard mixed results with these bulbs, but what product have we seen on these forums that DOESN"T get mixed reviews??
Or, Finally, You could wait and purchase my omnidirectional LED's designed for Reflective Optics in our cars. I am currently developing these, and hope to begin testing soon.

See ya!
Thanks InDashMP3 for describing what I said earlier, yea, led's suck, and those titanium bulbs, forget even seing those unless it's nighttime. What are you developing for a new bulb?? For our directionals in the rear??? 3157???Can't wait to hear what your up to, i'de be very interested

I got some 7440 hyper whites for my rear signals, trying to make them brighter. But with the red lens, they just looked weak and purplish. I also found out when I took out the OE bulbs that, as stated above, they are 3156 which is same size as 7440 but with an extended plastic base that makes the fit the socket better and extends them further into the light housing.
So now I am still trying to figure out what bulbs I can use for the signals and maybe the tail/brake lights that will be brighter than OEM.
