Civic noise level

This question is for anyone with a 2001 Civic LX Auto. I was wondering if your engine noise gets quiet loud when accelerating above 3500 RPMS(especially when the transmission is in first of second gear)? If so, are there any ways to reduce the noise(besides getting a stick)?

Yeah, I hated that noise too. I got the FIPK so at least the noise is deeper and less annoying. Sounded like the hamsters under the hood were constipated or sumthin.

Same here I have the LX. It seems to get loud after 3k rpm tho. I dont think there is a way to fix it. Oh btw I have manual, I don't think it matters.

Road noise is also a huge problem with our cars. I like how the promotional booklet for the car says something like "special placement of sound damping materials significantly reduces road noise so you can talk comfortably." The noise level is rediculous and my friends have to yell from the back or noone will hear them. Maybe dynamating the floor will help some.

By the way, my engine is loud when accelerating, but gets quiet when cruising. It's the road noise that kills me.

yeah. and the dealer ripped me off with the undercoating/sound deadening protection. what sound deadening. bunch of bs. Thin sheet metal, cheap materials contribute to most of the road noise. And bad insulation as well. On the highway, the windnoise just drives me NUTS! Screaming becomes normal at 120km/h.

Try dealing with the noise at 110mph every day. I drive the autobaun to work every day and it drives me up the wall. It will wake you up thats for sure.

Hondas are very noisy in general. It depends on what you are comparing them to of course but in general, they are one of the noisier brands out there. I swear my '00 ex v6 sedan was noisier than the my civic. Used to drive me up the walls considering what I paid for it.

Yes, honda 4-bangers make noise and lots of it. I like the engine noise. If you want quiet, step over to toyota and ye shall find.

Compared to my previous car, a tricked-out 1988 16V Scirocco, my Civic is a Cadillac - super quiet and has a super smooth ride.

Yeah the engine sure gets LOUD (and high pitched) when it gets to 3k. At least with manual you can avoid it by shifting early. although it is slow at least it doesn't give you a splitting headache.

yeah it doesnt really work for sound deadening unless you put it on in very heavy coats, but at least the undercarriage is protected better than it was before. yeah only noise i can really complain about is the fwy noise at 70+mph.

You got the "thin" part right but not the "cheap."

The car is noisy because honda makes every effort to keep the weight of the vehicle as low as possible. If they could get away with more interior noise, they would. How do you think that little engine provides the performance that it does (you know, think if the vic weighed a few hundred lbs more)? It's because the car is light as hay.
