With the 7440 bulbs???

I know this topic has been shot to death, but I bought some 7440 amber bulbs from autodynamics assuming they would just fit. Well, the don't fit. So I searched the topic and I read that something needed to be removed from the socket in order for the bulbs to fit. Is this correct and can you give me any new info???

Thanks fellas
Joel

i tried some 7440 in my friend's civic when we were clearing out lights this past summer, they did fit somewhat but they only lit up when the turn signal was put on, i don't think the 7440 have dual filaments like the 7443

that would be awsome! then the turn siginal would only be on wheen needed! i want to get rid of all the extra stock lights from my car, and ive been wanting to get rid of one of those up front, tho i was just going to get rid of the parking. right now i have the back side 194/168s out.

sometimes just to mess around i leave my lights turned off and hold the brights on, dont know why i do that.......

I've replaced the 7443 turn signals with 7440 bulbs because I didnt want them on with my headlights. Now they only turn on when I have my hazards on or am signaling for a turn.

The 7440s will not directly replace the 7443s (at least not on a sedan...dunno if coupe is different). There is a part of the inside of the socket that you have to remove somehow. Some people used an exacto knife, but I used the file in my Leatherman and kept shaving at it till the bulb would fit. Now the 7440 is snug inside.

If you try and put the 7440 in, you should be able to feel/see what part of the socket is obstructing the bulbs fitment and shave down that piece accordingly. I don't know how to better describe it. Hope that helps you guys.

P.S. I did this when I was clearing my headlights, so I had an easy time getting to the socket. It's gonna be a pain if you are doing it through the fenderwall.

P.P.S. The reason I replaced the 7443s with 7440s is because I put in Amber bulbs when I cleared my headlights, and I didnt want them on with my headlights, so that I don't have 2-colors on. I just want a clean white look....but still wanna be legal when turning or changing lanes.
