ECU upgrade??
anyone have a venom 400 chip or a jet ecu re program??? What can reasonably be expected, I have all the usual bolt on mods already done. They both cost about $300.00 and claim a 10hp gain for our cars with intake/exhaust upgrades. We all spent more than $300.00 just for the few HP increases the intake/pipes gave us, is the ecu upgrade worth it?
im sure NOCHOPSTIX has a valid point relating to SOME cars, but not hondas. HONDAs have ECUs programmed to perform a certain way, with limitations and such. now, if you go into the ECU and start reprogramming to withdrawal those limiters, and to run a different way, you'll get your results. The ECU being reprogrammed is very dependent on the mods that you already have. so if you have 10+ hp from bolt-ons, than yes, its likely you'll get another 10+ hp from the ECU upgrade.
as far as particular ECU upgrades, i personally would send my ECU to JET and let them reprogram it for you, because with the VENOM VCN-400, it only works part of the time your driving, and from what i heard from someone who bought it is that when it does kick in, it doesnt do much.
another option is to spend the money that you were planning on this ECU upgrade, and go out and upgrade your ignition. if you havent already done so, than i recommend doing the ignition before the ECU. the ECU should be the last thing you play with. the IGNITION SOLUTIONS PLASMA BOOSTER packs are supposed to be a nice upgrade for our ignitions, and apparently one of the only ones beside new plugs.

the ignition kit is about $480.00, the jet 300.00-
doesnt the jet do the same thing as the plasma ignition kit, increase the spark and slightly advance the timing???

Any word on if Hondata will be working with the ECUs for the D17? I know that Hondata can extract some *mad* power from an ECU. Most guys that are doing B16A and B18C swaps are running Hondata ECUs and it's incrediably amazing. Also, this will help in the long run if you decided to go to a nitrous setup or FI.

Also at 4100 rpms you can feel an extra little tug if you are flooring it, but I think it is the headers coming into play.
Gas mileage went down and you can not use lower than 89 octane gas.
Well worth it $229.00 from JC Whitney online.
7800 rpm redline? --- I think the factory probably did a good job with the redline and IMO - I wouldn't bring it up without upgrading the valve train. But factories have been known to build engines for reliability so maybe a few hundred rpm more aint too bad. I like to play it kinda safe though - I don't need a blown engine right now...
How do u have a 7800 rpm redline!!!?? Is that from the chip!. I redline at 7000 with the basic bolt-ons and I have ran at the track, I ran a 17.0 flat with my best time. I geuss im worse then I thought at driving my car. Please answer thanks! -Josh
Alright what do you guys know about this ecu mod.
.
I dont know anything about it, ive only installed the actuall chips themselves on some civics. Does anyone know anyone that has one of these?
Also i talked with the guy and he says it will work on 7thgen civics and if you guys are interested i can get a group buy. Let me know

7,000 RPMs is right when the rev limiter kicks in. 6,800 is the RPM redline. You get a few more RPMs. 7,800 ain't bad at all but a higher redline ain't too much if you don't have the power to back it up especially since our cars suck at high RPMs.
