Engine Mount

Are you able to take out the engine mounts in our civic's or not??? I finally got myself a HP 4-1 Header with High Flo Cat and was just wondering if your able to take out the engine mount instead of cutting it??? Either way I will get it on but if we are able to take off the engine mount I rather do it that way

You are all wrong so don't answer the question if you don't know what you are talking about. It is a lot easier to remove the front engine mount than to cut it. You don't need a hoist or whatever the hell that guy was talkin about to take it out. You also don't need an impact gun, I took it off with a ratchet. Next time only answer a question if you know the answer.

you guys are funny, but seriously, cutting the motor mount, are you trying to make your engine lose its support on the front, really, unbolt the front and side motor mounts, put a jack under the tranny or engine block, put a piece of wood between the jack and engine, lift it an inch or two, and look the space you need to put the header on is there, not cutting the motor mount, and hey you dont even weaken the support from cutting the front motor mount either, whoever thought cutting the motor mount was good, must be a complete moron, think about it, cut the motor mount wow ITS WHAT SUPPORTS YOUR ENGINE, mister mechanic, use your head

This is the first sensible post I have seen. I would do this for a manual. For an auto, just take the front motor mount out, and there is no need to put a jack under the engine because you don't need that much space. Just take the front one out.

1955- You say that not using a hoist is a "shade tree job?" Why? If you take the frotn engine mount out, the engine isn't going to fall or move or be hurt in any way. Why waste your time with a hoist? Even if I had one I wouldn't use one. You are just making more work for yourself.

Taking the front motor mount out may have the following consequences though:
- cabin noise increases due to changed engine vibrations absorbtions
- other engine mounts will be under more stress
- heavy braking will further increase the stress on the other engine mounts

I hear that the rear engine mount is very shoddy (familyman posted something about this, his was broken). That might mean that without a front engine mount, the rear one could break easily and then there are only two other engine mounts supporting the entire engine. They have pivot points, so they are not very strong to movement in directions that the front and rear engine mounts take care of.

Anyway, DO NOT MODIFY AND/OR REMOVE THE ENGINE MOUNTS!!! Honda put them in there for a reason. If anything, beef them up. Especially the rear one. I wouldn't buy a HP header until they come out with ones that fit properly anyway.

I DIDN'T MEAN TO TAKE THE MOUNT OUT FOR GOOD. The mount is not in the way once you have the header in, it is just in the way when you are installing the header. All you do is take the mount off for installation then put it back on when you are done. I guess I should have clarified.

Oh really? Wait, so you do not need to modify the engine mount at all? Just take it out and put it back in? Was that true with the original HP header, or is this the new procedure for the updated HP header? Wait, or is there only one version of the HP header? I Have it and did not cut the mount. There is only 1 version of the header. I just took the mount out, put the header in, and put the mount back in. I would say that the DIY needs to include this before people needlessly shave their mounts.

Yeah, so why the hell did someone cut it? I thought that a while back someone installed the HP header and they weren't able to do it any other way, so they shaved the engine mount to accomodate the header. Maybe they just didn't think of taking out the mount first? Then it became a trend and it caught on and OverTheTop made that DIY assuming that you needed to shave the engine mount. Probably something like that happened...

Unless you unbolt 2 mounts and either rase or lower the whole block...you have to shave it to get the header into the engine bay...My friend has the HP header and they just lowered the engine 3" and it fit no probs...after it's mounted there's no clearance issues..for a shop to do this..it's about 2 hours more labour...(much better than shaving an engine mount)

look at the bottom left side of the header in the picture, the header does not even come close to the mount, so there is no need to cut the mount, just take the mount then put it back in

if you have a auto you have no reason to cut the engine mount BUT if you have a manual goodluck fitting it in without cutting it or shaving it down and NO taking out the engine mount will not even help if you do because on a manual the engine mount is a lot bigger than the auto engine mounts so with the manual's engine mount being bigger the tube DOES run right against the mount so you have to shave, which I did but o-well I plan to buy another engine mount soon and plus people who have shaved their engine mount seem to be having no problems at all and keep in mine when I did shave mine down I did not even come close to cutting as much as Overthetop did on his car actually I had no huge pieces laying around the biggest piece I had was probably around 2cm big basically what I did was take a huge thick file and shaved it just rounding it off for me to be able to slide the header in so in my case my front engine mount is all intact all together just shaved down NOT CUT shaved.... and I am happy with the results I have recieved. even thought I still worry about the mount but its done now and i have no control over it, also on my side is I don't drive like a idiot....... I know someone who has broke his 2k1 civic front mount from driving and he has done some stupid crap........
