May be getting rid of my magnaflow cat-back
Yep... I took it to this exhaust place, says it'll cost between $65 - $150 to repair it. You all know how low it hangs after installation. I refuse to believe this is normal, I hit EVERYTHING, I even hit the street itself after bouncing down from railroad tracks or a dip in the road. I'm relatively po'd. I feel like I wasted $300 on this thing.
If I replace this thing, I'd get this:
FLOWMASTER Cat-Back 16 Gauge Aluminized Exhaust Systems With A Distinct Hot Rod Sound
Force II Single Rear Aluminized Steel 2inch Cat-Back System With 3inch Chrome Tip
Flowmaster systems are designed to provide even better performance than a single Flowmaster muffler installation. Flowmaster's systems will improve acceleration and passing power, as well as increase fuel mileage. Every system is individually engineered and dyno-tested for each application and includes all required mounting hardware. Looking for the famous full-on Flowmaster tone? Look no further. Force II will deliver the aggressive tone you want, as well as the performance you demand. This system includes a 60 Series Delta-Flow Performance Import Muffler.
Unique Hot Rod Type Rumble!
Simple Bolt-On Installation!
Factory Style Hangers!
Mandrel Bent Heavy Gauge Tubing!
Fully Welded Case Muffler With No Packing To Blow Out!
HP & Torque: 10-15 HP/26 ft lbs Torque
Installation: Flowmaster exhaust systems are designed to bolt on behind your vehicles catalytic converter and whenever possible utilize the factory mounting locations. On systems that exit in a location other that factory, Flowmaster includes hangers that bolt around the frame and require no drilling or welding. The hardest part of installation is getting your old system off. Once that is done, you will find all parts you need to complete the installation are included. All you need are regular hand tools. Installation times range from twenty minutes to one hour depending on application and available resources.
Tech Notes: 50 States Smog Legal
I figure why not pay the extra $60 bucks to get a brand new exhaust system while I'm at it. Yeah, yeah I know it's flowmaster. I don't want to hear it
Anyone know if this would be covered by the "limited lifetime warranty?"

sorry to hear this!
It's all in how you install it, though. You have to do some tweaking with the U-Bolts (I'm going to dremel off part of one of them), and then get some extra tie downs to pull it closer to the car.
Once you do this, you shouldn't have a problem. Ask magnaflow: call 'em up, or call up MagnaFlowGuy and see if they can hook you up.
I love my magnaflow! I have my car lowered about 1.75" and only hit the occasional time (speedbumps are completely avoided). So I think it really depends on how you install it.
Then again, I only usually have me in the car, and sometimes my girlfriend (100lbs)...so it doesn't weigh down the car that much.
Good luck!

The scrapes have nothing to do with the u-clamps. I have scrapes all down the middle of the pipe itself. The u-clamps hardly look worn.. I've loved the magna's thus far, the sound is awesome.

agreed..i love the sound.
If its all beat up, then you can't really keep it...but...if you want to try and MacGuyver something together, I'd go for the custom hangers.
I'm going to try it this weekend. Right now it's hanging about 2/3 inches away from the frame of the car...I want to bring it up a bit closer, but not touching. I think you can do this with the simplest of tools: coat hanger + drill.
if there isn't a hole to stick the coat hanger into: drill one! hehehe
Like I said...I'll do it this weekend. I'll try to keep you posted on the progress!
and ya, already said it, but I too love the sound! its nuts!
the sound clip in the sound clip thread doesn't do it justice!

If you want some serious loudness, rev the baby up till about 6,000 in 1st gear and change to 2nd. You can chirp your tires that way. I do that now and then for a good laugh. I've even chirped going from 2nd to 3rd...
It doesn't look beat up, but I wonder how many times can you scrape it before there's a hole... That would suck. Eyeballing it, I'd say it's about 2 inches from the ground.
Edit: No one here has the Flowmaster II cat-back so I could be a guinea pig... My bro's '97 Civic has the American Thunder cat-back. That's SO VERY LOUD without the resonator, after the resonator it was still kinda loud. Flowmaster II is supposed to be more of a deep rather than loud sound..

Dude, Flowmasters "Hotrod" sound is going to be the ricest thing alive. I had a flowmaster on my 4.3L sonoma and it sounded like a big ole, bumble bee. then i got the dynomax (which is the same setup as magnaflow) and everyone swore i had a v8 in it. trust me from experience...flowmasters stink!
Are there other ones then that are ok? I thought the flowmasters on my bro's Civic was pretty good. It sounded ricey before the resonator...
I refuse to pay for the TCS, for the money, I think it sucks. For $300 it'd be awesome.

i'm not so sure about flowmasters on 4 bangers, sounds kinda ricey. i love my GReddy and i've never scraped even once, had the thing about 5 months and been through all sorts of terrain, lowered 1.75" too. however, the twin flowmasters that my dad has on his race car (1977 porsche 911 carerra 3.0) sound absolutely awesome. those are almost straight through though and loud as hell. i'd vote for the GReddy though, lots of comments on how nice it sounds and no scrapeage whatsoever.

I have the magnaflow cat-back and didn't have a problem before I lowered the car. Now, with neuspeed sports, I scrape on about everything. The darn thang hangs so low that it is almost impossible not to scrape on speeds bumps and such. My system is welded and does not have any of those cheap u-bolts that don't work by the way. Oh, I have even heard the mid-pipe and felt it get pushing up aganst the bottom of the car. If you are looking for a system and plan to drop your car, spend the extra cash and get something else. If you don't, it will just cost you more in the end.
I love the sound of the system like I love my little girl. However, if the opportunity presents itself to sell the thang, it's gone and I am getting something else.
I wish I would have waited for the hks or gone with another brand.
