Hey guys. I have a problem. I have a 1997 honda civic that my sister gave to me. The car has several problems but one problem i seem to cant find the solution is this. The front passenger side door only opens from the outside. Ppl have to always roll down the window to open it. When i open the door, I see the thee screws that surrounds the locking mechanism. But one is missing and the last two are so loose that when you close the door they slip out a little. Can I fix it myself or do i have to get the mechanic to fix it. I want to take my drivers test in it but i get docked points if the instructor cant open the door from the inside. Please help!

did you take the door panel off to see if the hook is connected to the inside door handle

no im afraid to take the panel off. I was hoping maybe it was the screws. One is missing and the other 2 are loose.

your taking about the screws that hold the lock in place right. I dont think it that unless you see it moving alot when you pull the the handle, and by alot i mean about a inch. I still think that the hook is off, it happens like when someone installs a aftermarket speaker and just forget to install the hook back. Just look there i wont be hard to take off.

Take the inside handle out and make sure it's linkage is connected to inside handle. Take the linkage loose and pull on the L end to see if door will open.

Tighten screws you have in latch.

Child Safety Lock may have gotten flipped. Open the door, and check on the latch itself. Usually there is a metal tab that needs to be flipped into the unlocked position.

I though that was only for the rear doors.

The only way ypur gna fix it is by poping the door panel off its very easy and make sure tht the lil placfic peace is connected to the rod for the handle I had the same problem on my 96 dx and had it fixed same day hope this helps
