Throttle Position Sensor... Help!

So my Malfunction Indicator Light came on on my 05' Honda Civic and it started shifting strangely/less than efficiently a couple of days ago. I took it in yesterday to my dealer, they said it's a problem with the Throttle position sensor, (Code P 0122). Then again looking at the sheet it says needs throttle body in one section and just the sensor in another. Can you get the sensor without the whole body when you order it?

Anyways they surmised it'd cost $500 roughly parts plus labor, I don't know much about this stuff so I was wondering how difficult it'd be to order and change it myself, where I could find the parts, how much cheaper it'd be, if there's a link for a page on how to change them out, etc.?

Thanks guys in advance for your expertise.

*EDIT*

I went to the Majestic Honda site, plugged in my info (Civic 05 Special Edition EX Automatic Trans and Throttle Body is the part needed) and got this page:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...=THROTTLE+BODY

If i'm reading that correctly, I need the second one on the list (4881391 BODY ASSY., THROTTLE (GY79A)) for $229.95, correct? That's the full throttle body and once I replace that everything should be good?

Lastly, again how difficult is this to do? I watched a quick video of some guy removing it from his car (don't know the make of it) but it looked like it's easy to access and all you've got to do is disconnect like 5 things, switch it out, then reconnect.

Re: Throttle Position Sensor... Help!

yeah its super easy to replace. three bolts and one nut to remove the piece, then unplug the sensors and vacuum lines, and undo the throttle and cruise cables by turning the throttle to full open and sliding out the guide pins from the hole in the lever. be sure to loosen the radiator cap before removing the two coolant lines so you dont have coolant spraying all over. if you want new tb, majestic has the best prices. otherwise ebay usually has throttle bodies for around $50 used and working. thats what i got when my tps went bad. just be sure to get the right model depending if you have auto or manual trans. the car wont run well with the wrong one. and do the idle learn after replacing it.

Re: Throttle Position Sensor... Help!

i have no idea. most ebay sellers post what trans its from, otherwise there is no physical difference. you just have to find out what trans it came off. i know because i accidentally used a manual tb on my auto once. everything connected just fine, but acceleration sucked and was lagging badly when you press the gas. i can only assume it has different sensors that look the same.

****, when I got my EX head I dont think the guy ever said what type of transmission it came from. I saved the posting, but no info came from it... damn, and no serial number on the head to double check... Hmmm.. I'll try to contact the seller.

Re: Throttle Position Sensor... Help!

I'm new here. Just purchased a 2002 Ex for my daughter from an auctioneer. So far the car failed inspection for the cat converter and stumbles 5x before it settles down and runs. The seller paid for a new cat converter to pass emissions. Brought car to dealer for the stumbling or loss of power issue and they concluded that I need a new TB. That is $500. The seller is sending me a check to cover it. Hopefully this covers the problems but have to send out a great thank you to the seller for standing behind the car. My TB issue didn't not draw an engine light.
