How do I disable my automatic headlights?

I have a 2001 corolla, and the automatic headlights are always on. Is there any way I can go manual?

Re: How do I disable my automatic headlights?

Most likely you have DRLs and also "twilight sentinal" (auto headlights) I had these on my 00 Corolla and liked it for the most part.

With this system it is hard to just remove a fuse or 2 and disable it like you can with some systems.

I cut a small bit of 3/4" wooden dowel with rubber caps on the ends, just long enough to slightly lift the parking brake handle preventing the system from working. The downside is you have to look at the brake indicator light being on while driving.

I assume you're in Canada if you have DRL. If you're going to disable them, make sure you tell your insurance company and they'll jack up your premiums because driving without DRL isn't as safe.....that's the purpose for having them. And if you get into an accident, they may argue with you before paying out. Be ready for a court case. Good luck.

yeah dont disable drl in canada. in usa fine, just go looking for the control box and find the parking brake wire if the system uses it. you can usually just ground the cable and the system will stay off. but test to see if lifting the parking brake makes the system turn off.

Re: How do I disable my automatic headlights?

The Toyota system is a bit different due to the auto headlights some of these have. (sounds like this on does as well) All Corollas after 98-99 have DRL, but not all have auto headlights. Some people have tried removing fuses but it causes other weird things to occur when you do. As long as the parking brake is up when car started the whole system will stay off until it is released, but once p brake is released they will stay on until the car is turned off (both DRL and auto headlights)

On the Camry you have the option to disable it if you choose.
