The Ebay 20+hp "speed chip" scam unveiled...Read B4 posting.
There are many people asking questions about this, so maybe it'll get stickied and people will read this rather than open new pointless topics.
That 20+hp chip you saw on ebay, or anywhere else for $1-$20 is a twenty cent 4.7K ohm resistor. The two leads get pushed in to the 2 sockets on your air temp sensor that goes into your intake. In theory, it makes the ECU think the air is cooler outside so it pushes more fuel. Go to Radio Shack and buy the resistor for $0.20. Do not buy assuming you are getting a 'chip' or some piggy back unit.

this has already been explained. I don't think it needs to be stickied....it just needs to be searched like the many other topics that have been talked about before.

Rep Power: 454 this thread needs to be locked. We have all known this information since this site first started. Everyday someone else decides to let us know that those ebay speedchips are resisitors, but we already know. There are millions of threads on this.

ummm bud we are just joking, 95% of us know that it ain't gonna do anything. our cars won't get 20hp from a 20 cent thing, if it was i guarantee you everyone who has a civic would have had one by now.

OK, so here's maybe another dumb question along these lines...
The resistor tricks the computer into delivering more fuel and advancing the spark timing. Is there any other way of advancing the spark timing? (What I really mean is, is there any other super cheap and easy way to advance spark timing?)
One of the first things you do to an old (80's-90's) Mustang is to advance the spark timing as much as you can without getting detonation.
Is there a good way to do this on our Civics? Don' tell me they're already optimized from the factory. I want performance, not reliability DAMMIT!
