shift **** install

(yes I used that handy little search button)
I just my RSX shift **** yesterday and while trying to put it in, I realized it's a bastard. The first of the threads start to bite into the ****, then it immediately starts going on crooked. And it's only the first couple threads that actually bite. Is there a certain way to put it on? And do I need the clip to hold up the boot?

I have the base (5-speed) RSX ****, and I didn't have any trouble with the installation, but I remember I started and backed it off a couple times before I cranked it down to make sure I had the threading right.

I was just working on it again and no dice. I doesn't just slip on and able to be screwed on. The hole on the **** is 0.35" and this continues for about 1.5", and none of it is threaded. After the 1.5", threading starts but the diameter decreases so there's no way that can screw on.
What's the deal?

do you have the base rsx **** thats made out of rubber or the metal looking one? the black one should fit with no problems. but the metal one is not going to fit perfectly and you'll need to get another clip to fit the shifter if you want to keep the silver ring.

It's the base rubber one with the bit of silver down the center.

That is the tech section that gives you what part number you need to order the plastic ring that holds the boot up.

See if you can get ahold of an M10 x 1.5 screw/bolt that's at least 50mm long. Now see if you can thread it into the ****. It'll be much easier to clean a minor burr in the **** by using a screw/bolt. If worse comes to worse, you may need a tap, but it's unlikely that the **** threads are that messed up.

Good luck!

yea, it sounds like he stripped the threads. i have the base rsx shift **** on my baby and i took it slow. it fits like a glove and it feels a lot more comfortable than the vic's stock counterpart. i'll have to try the revo ss kit next when i get around to it.
