2004 Exhaust Resonator
Hey all. I just bought a 2004 Civic and installed the muffler I had on my 95. It's really quiet and it doesn't give that deep sound I had before. I noticed the resonator on the car this morning when I was trying to figure out why I didn't have much sound. Does the car need the resonator? It shouldn't hurt anything if I take it off, will it? Thanks for the help.

hey i have an 03 ex andi removed my exhaust resonator a few weeks ago. i got a megan racing muffler. the muffler wasnt loud. i wanted more. so i ripped off the resonator and put a pipe extension back into the muffler and it was louder. but its a nice loud. i love it. its deep and not annoyin. it kinda sorta loud inside the car. but u get used to it. asoon as i turned it on after the removal right away u hear it growl. its awesome. go ahead and take it off. it shouldnt harm ur engine in anyway...mike
Thanks all for the advice. I just all new cat back without the resonator. It's a little loud, but you gotta love the growl going down the road...and the nice purrrr it makes sitting still, awaiting the kill.

I was wondering the same thing too, I have a magnaflow muffler and I also noticed the resonator, and was thinking I should take it off but then i noticed one side is welded and one side is bolted or something where i'd have to take it in. I'm not sure what to do because if i have it taken out and it's too loud then of course I would have to buy an aftermarket resonator, i should probably call and see how much it'd cost, so to those of you who DONT have a resonator, how much louder would you say it is w/o it? twice as loud? my muffler is a small one 4" muffler w/ 3" tip, it sounds really good (just isn't very loud)

not sure if this helps, but what do you think it would sound like having a smaller muffler (straight through) w/o a resonator?
PS: I figured I would bring back a dead thread rather than start a new one on the same topic.

yea i thought about it, found some that were $300 or so, but i dont want to buy cheap crap and i dont want to spend $600 on a GReddy catback.. although GReddy would b really nice
any suggestions on catbacks that are decently priced and aren't crap?
sgt blaze: wut catback did u get and how much did it run you?

If you put on a resonator right away, keep in mind it should be a high flow which will give you your sound and performance.
When I was looking at a system I was considering how loud is right for me. I went with the DC Sports TCS and don't regret it in the least. Nice sounding and not overbearing on road trips.
You will just have to try different things and see what you like.
