Weird Exhaust setup
Alright well as you know I've already semi cleared and semi blacked my headlights in a non traditional way.
So here's another non traditional idea.
I wanted to get a carbon fiber exhaust but I know how cops are just plain A$$e$ in MD.
Therefore, I'd probably get pulled over one day for going 6mph over the speed limit and
having an aftermarket modified too loud sounding exhaust.
The other day I already got pulled over for something else and they stared at my exhaust tip and came to my window and asked if i was running "gas" (NAWS) in the car.
So anyway... I was thinking maybe I could do a custom mod to have the looks of aftermarket but not the sound.
I was thinking of getting the axleback shaped so that the box sits higher up against the bottom of the trunk... and then having the piping coming off of the muffler bent back downwards towards the rear of the car. Then I'd buy one of those carbon fiber uiversal mufflers off of ebay and have it welded on in the correct position over the 10-12 inches of pipe that comes off of the stock muffler.
This way I'd have the looks but not the sound... which, IMO I hate too.
I know some of you will laugh at this idea so you guys can save it.
I just want to get some opinions about the cons of this mod if any.
Would the whole setup be too heavy?

i dunno...if you just bend the stock piping, and add on the universal cf muffler, it shouldn't add much weight at all (as much as the cf muffler weighs + < lb of welding material)
cons that I can think of is restricted airflow, since youre gonna bend the stock piping in such a way that its original "semi-straight-through" design is obstructed, you will have restricted flow, but on our small 1.7l engines, i dun think it will do too much, so if you have the funds, i'd say go for it. and good luck with it toO!

if you are that concerned with getting pulled over, you have 2 options, first keep it stock, second, move to Houston and you wont ever have to worry about that. You said you got pulled over, but did you get a ticket?

for an exhaust tip? No. But the cop that pulled me over for illegal lighting went to tbe back of my car thinking he knew shi+. Too bad I only had a tip.
My friend had an intake and he drove his car kinda quick off the line in the city (up to about 35mph) which made his intake sound loud... so some and come cocka$$ bi+ch cop comes to the window of the car and tells him he's driving like a nut PLUS "I'm going to have to write you up for the exhaust too"
Friend: "What exhaust?"
Cop: (walks to the back of his car with cocky attitude) "Well LET'S see HERE... (then walks to patrol car and sits there for 30 mins)
Cop: Comes back with a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.
What a douchebag.
I might actually be going to houston whether or not I get into optometry school there. I hear the girls there are fly.

Ok... I'm thinking about this and I'm not sure how this is going to work.
The muffler is about 18" long, the overhang is give or take 2.5' If you push it back 12" you're going to stuff it in the space between the LCA, the sway bar and the body... not likely to happen. So your next option is to go in front of the suspension, but the muffler is too wide to fit in the tunnel. So you're stuck.
I would suggest this... Leave the resonator in place. That'll kill most of the ugly noises and it'll fit. If you want to open up the piping... I believe it is possible to open up it up by removing the resonator from the B pipe and welding on larger flanges. Then get yourself something like an HKS, APEXi or JIC CF muffler (not sure who makes them), but you know what I'm saying... a quality one, not a generic fart cannon.
It might make it a little louder, but shouldn't get to the point of illegal, nor should it sound like a flatulent symphony.
If all your looking for is a catback that won't get noticed, get yourself an RS*R.... stock looking with larger piping and its black ceramic.... so you have no idea.
