Need help painting engine parts

I searched, and looked up the DIY. I want to paint my valve cover, the very top piece with the VTEC words. I've heard people using high temp paint, is it neccesarry? Does it get that hot? If so, do they make a high temp primer and clear coat? The DIY said he primed and cleared the plastic cover, I wasn't sure they made a high temp clear coat.....

I would go to one of those auto shops like PepBoys and ask the guy at the counter about painting engine parts and ask him what you need exactly

I used Duplicolor Metalcast on my plastic cover dealie. It doesn't get that hot so you don't need a really high-heat paint. I used a couple of layers of Metalcast base coat, then like 5 or 6 (I forget) coats of Metalcast.

I SHOULD have used high heat paint on the EM heat shield though - look how it went all orange on me....cos I put it on the car before it was totally dry. Boo-urns...

p.s. I didn't need clearcoat. For some reason spray clearcoat bubbles up Duplicolor...

That looks even nicer than mine. But hi-temp paint isn't really necessary for the parts we painted, since they don't really get that hot.

Yeah i was thinking of painting mine silver. Also if your gonna do this yourself like these guys, it would be smart to prep the plastic pieces very well before you do it. Scotchbrite is awesome, it will help paint stick and not fisheye. You could also go real crazy with 2000 grit sand paper or even finer. I will be doing mine soon and i'll post up a pic. Good job Telly i really like yours. The blue one looks nice too, well done, just a little too blue for me.

I didn't bother - again, cause spray clearcoat makes Duplicolor Metalcast bubble up....weird.
