Some have said adding OEM parts to the car will raise the value, like fogs and OEM body kit. I think any mod will lower the value or not change it at all if you're trading in. Try and sell to a private party cause they'll appreciate the mods more depending on who it is.

90% of all cars = diminishing return
In any case, Gearbox is right about the OEM parts. If you decide to sell a modded car, you're better off parting out the aftermarket stuff

Look at the Kelly Blue Book for an idea of what will raise the value of your car. I work in Car Sales and we take trade ins all the time... things like: sunroof/moonroof, rear spoiler (oem), alloy wheels, cd player, leather seats.... these things add value to your vehicle.
Forget KBB. Look at www.edmonds.com & www.nadaguids.com. Edmonds will give you the true market value on your car or a new car. That is what I went with when I bought my 02 Ram Quad Cab. I used that as a nagociating(sp) tool and after I got them down 3K, I showed them the print out and they went down another $1300.

To answer the original question, anything the dealer can look up as an original option will ad value as a tradein. Oem parts are worth more to a dealer, because they can say it came on the car. But if you've got a Tsunami wing or kit on there, they don't know if they can move it or not, so you may get nothing for it.
If you're selling to an individual, the same applies, but they might also consider nicer wheels, spoilers and stuff to be worth extra if they're into that. But for example, if they're not into big spoilers and you have one, it's gonna be a big turnoff to them AND the dealer, because it'll be harder to sell if it's a non-standard part.
Bottom line: keep the car as stock-looking as possible when trading, so take off the expensive add-ons and sell them before trading/selling.
My list of good add-ons that increase value: Tint, Leather, CD player (not an expensive system, take out the sub), cd changer, foglights, keyless entry/alarm, factory spoilers, factory looking dash kits, sway bar/tie bar.
My list of bad add-ons that could decrease value: gawdy non-standard tint (fade, weird colors), expensive sound systems, non-oem foglights, non oem spoilers/wings (especially huge sizes or aluminum), any nasty interior mods like yellow trim, aftermarket huge tachometers mounted to dash, aftermarket seats that don't match the back seats, gawdy graphics on sides, carbon fiber hood/trunk (unless painted), and engine mods that could be considered detrimental to engine reliability, wild suspension mods like lowering springs, stiff shocks, huge sway bars, loud fartcannon exhaust.
Mods that could go either way: cleared headlights, aftermarket mirrors, altezzas. Mild suspension mods like strut bars, intakes, header, mild exhaust that isn't loud.
Mods that you'll never get your money back on unless you take them off: expensive sound systems, engine mods, full exhaust, header, intakes.
You've gotta remember to think about the mods from the dealers point of view. They don't care if something is "cool", they only care if they can sell it later. They also look at whether the mod will affect engine performance and reliability. I/H/E mods would be looked at negatively, because they don't know if it'll affect gas mileage for example. If they think a certain mod will cause the new owner to bring it back for work, they'll either take it off before selling or they'll give you nothing for it or maybe even ask you to put the original back on before they accept the trade.

I always thought an oem body kit would bring up the value a bit. condidering it costs quite a bit from the dealer but if you bought it aftermarket is costs like half the price.
Drive your car as little as possible. Low miles is the best way to up the resale value of the car. Another thing you can do is sell all aftermarket parts and switch the ownership of the car to your mom/dad's name and get her/him to sell the car (In Ontario we can do this without having to pay tax). Dealers are looking to rip off younger people.

Just get a new gauge cluster. Won't that start the mileage out at 0?
What about an engine swap? Would that lower or increase the value? Thread
