Roof rack questions, please help........
Roof rack questions, please help........
I am looking to put a roof rack on my 03 LX. I will be transporting my mountain bike and nothing else. Does anyone have a rack system on their car? If so, which one? I was thinking about getting a THULE system. Please help. Also, if you have a pic of your car with the rack, please post it so I can see how it will look. Thanks and I appreciate all the input I get!!!!!
Oh, if you have a used one for sale, let me know as well, thanks.

I have a Thule rack on my sedan. Do you have coupe or sedan. I had a Yakima rack on my previous car, but the fit kit for Yakima did not fit very good on the sedan. So, I ended up getting Thule instead. I have to say I like Thule a lot more than Yakima. I have pictures, but not on this computer. I have attachments for skis, bikes, kayaks, and a evo box.
okay, i install these racks about 2-3 times per week. i considered getting one for mine, but dont have cash. You need:
All made by yakima. I think yakima is better than Thule.
1. Q Towers Part #8000105 $125.00
2. Q Stretch Kit Part #8000120 $99.00
3. (2) Q115 Clips Part #8000715 $25.00 each
4. 48" CrossBar Part #8000408 $45.00
5. Viper fork mount Part #8002000 $125.00 - this is what you actually put the bike on, yakima offers several different options for this. Highest price is 125$ you get one for that price
So, for $444 dollars you can get the rack and carry one bike.
An Authorized yakima dealer should install it for free.
Yakima sets their prices, and dealers are required to sign a contract saying that they wont change the price. So it should be the same price anywhere you go.

man, thats a grip of $$$... I remember Exbauer sending me pics about the racks over a year ago... I just want them so I can carry a surfboard/snowboard... But I'm moving away from the beach for college, and I can just fold down one seat and put all the snowboards there....
ok, if it is just for one bike or 2 or even 3 just get the Thule rear mount. This is what I do with my bike. It is about $80 and worth it. I take it off when not in use, does not affect the car and doesn't look like crap on top of you civic. If you decide to get a rack system go with Thule. My company has been an authorized dealer of Thule for many years. We did carry Yakima in the past, but have had bad results. First off Thule uses as square bar system while Yakima uses a circular. Think of it, which will lock better, the right angles do the job much nicer. Also Thule practicaly has a specific fit kits for every car on the market (close to 200 different kits). Yakima uses 5 or so. + Thule will be slightly cheeper, but not much.
if you have a rei in your area you can find these at 20% off sometimes. they have these sales a couple times a year. currently there is coupon you can use online or in the store if you are a rei member. to join it is only $15 for lifetime and you get a dividend at the end of the year. thule is better than yakima with the locking to the bars.
I have a SARIS rack on mine, ie, my member name. I can probably get you one for somewhere around $210 including the load bars and 1 tray. Without a doubt, it is the easiest to take on and off (5 minutes at the most). www.sarisproducts.com

Yeah, thule, and yakama are good racks - but TOO DAMN expensive....there's just no way I'm going to spend $200+ dollars on some fabricated metal.....that's outrageous..
I'm probably just going the trunk route myself.....
