Rep Power: 0 Dash kit needed for aftermarket radio?
I have an 09 Hybrid with Navigation, so it already has a double din radio slot. The Crutchfield website tells me I need a dash kit adapter to install an upgraded head unit, but this doesn't make sense to me if swapping one double din unit for an aftermarket one. Is this really needed? The only thing I can think of is if the kit is needed for mounting of the aftermarket head unit vs the factory one. I have searched all over and cannot find an definitive answer on this.

If you have nav it is probably double din and if are going to a single din then yes you will need an adapter to fill in the extra space. If you are buying another double din you might still need an adapter to fill around the edges of the new radio depending on it's design.
You can always email crutchfield too.
