Rep Power: 0 Oil Changes 2014 and other fluids
Well this is my first Civic I use the Honda 0W-20 fully synthetic. The filter is a Honda brand I change the oil every 7,000 - 80000 miles. Is that too frequent for driving 50/50 Hwy/city?
Other than transmission (automatic) antifreeze, oil, brake fluid, - is there any other critical fluid that needs changed?
I have the 1.8L auto trans EX model.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: Oil Changes 2014 and other fluids
You can follow the maintenance minder suggested intervals and schedule if you wish.
Read about how it works in your owners manual, read about how to access it (on IMID display) in the owners manual.
Oil maintenance services (MM item A or B)
Tire rotation (MM item #1)
Engine air and cabin filters, the minder system will suggest somewhere around every 24-30k (MM item #2)
We (the shop I work for) recommend service CVT fluid every 30k even though the maintenance minder usually lets it go much further (MM item #3)
Spark plugs 100,000 miles (MM item #4)
Your owners manual will tell about when to service brake fluid and coolant too.
Brake fluid: every 3 years
Coolant: Maintenance minder will tell you when to do this by mileage (MM item #5), but if you drive little you may wish to follow the time-based intervals instead: 10 years/100,000 miles (usually) for first interval, 5yr/50k after that.
There's also a sticker on the hood that has this info.

DO NOT forget the most important fluid, wiper fluid!!!
jk
Hey Ezone, what procedure do you guys use for CTV?
I've heard, can't remember who from, that unlike the atf which was best serviced by multiple drain and fills, the ctv oly needs one drain and fill?
is that right?
do you need to use a flush machine?

BlInKeRfLuId!!
(Available in amber and red, don't mix them up)
Drain and fill.
Research the procedures too, there's a minimum drain time needed and fill/check procedures as there is no dipstick.
The large and small versions (Civic+Fit are small, or Accord+CRV+Civic Turbo are big) of the trans use different check plug locations and sizes.
If you let it sit too long with the check plug out.....it may dump a lot of fluid all over the floor LOL (Learned this on one of the very first 13 Accords we saw with the CVT)
Make SURE you got the correct fluid from the dealership, we now have more than one type, they are NOT compatible, and not every new parts pimp knows the difference.
If you ever see a 2016 Pilot with pushbutton shifter, you probably won't want to touch the 9 speed trans.
ZF built, fluid is about $50/qt US
This was never a requirement. A single drain and fill is sufficient when serviced regularly.
Never. Ever.
