2007 civic ex coupe. Actually just a post to say thanks. Started hesitating and dying intermittenly at stop signs, stop lights. Showed a code P0171 (free autozone). Could be ignition issue, fuel issue, etc. Scanned forum comments and were quite helpful. One of first things recommended to check is the mass Air flow sensor (MAF). Unclipped connection, undid the two screws pulled out MAF and sure enough found a dead mosquito-like insect embedded on sensor wires. Cleaned it out with MAF cleaner and it drove great. Code went away on its own after running three errands. From my experience with other cars and now this one as well always good to check that MAF first.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: P0171 code/good outcome MAF
FYI: That bug had to get past the air filter in order to reach the MAF sensor.
I have been seeing cheap air filters that don't have sufficient rubber seal material around the outer edge (not thick enough), this allows debris to go around the filter element...
and/or that same seal damaged from some ham-fisted mechanic shoving the filter in.
That bug SHOULD have been trapped by the filter.....so see why that bug made it past the filter.
