New Battery, Alternator works, car keeps dying
New Battery, Alternator works, car keeps dying
06 Civic SI (all stock)
So out of nowhere one morning I go to get into my car and head to work and I have no power. The key FOB wont respond, no lights come on, no crank, nothing all dark. I figured I left the door cracked and replaced the battery without any further troubleshooting. I was able to jump start it and get a new battery. After putting the new battery in I noticed the terminal clamps weren't completely tight but I was able to get it started with the new battery. It started fine but had a very low idle. The car with the new battery sat overnight and I was able to start it and drive it to work the next day. I get off of work and go to unlock the car with my FOB and again, no power at all. After about 30 mins of attempting to jump start the car it finally started but if I let the rpms get too low it would die. I made it home and tested the alternator and I got a reading of 13.8-14.1v. So I replaced the terminal clamps and noticed it started fine and ran fine so I thought it was fixed. The car sat overnight and I go to get in the next morning and again, absolutely no power.
Not sure where to look next, anyone have experience with this?
**UPDATE**
After a lot more digging I saw folks talking about a "parasitic draw test" in regards to battaries always dying. I performed the test and found that my "MG Clutch" fuse is allowing ~200mA to be pulled from my battery even when the car is off. Next step is to trace the pathway back to find the culprit to the draw. I have noticed that my compressor clutch is always engaged which may be a sign that my compressor clutch relay may be in the closed position and not opening to prevent power from being drawn. More to follow....
**UPDATE 2**
I was able to narrow it down to the A/C compressor clutch relay so I bought a new one for a few bucks and the draw has gone away. I will see if this has fixed my battery drainage issue in the morning.

My 2005 CIVIC has the AC Clutch on all the time and drained the battery 2 days in a row, At first Charged it and drove it around and thought it was a fluke but then i checked the load when everything was off and found 3 amps pulling on it and heard the AC Clutch relay engage While attaching the battery. Now to find why the Controls are turning on the AC clutch even with the ignition off and keys out of the car. My Guess is a faulty control switch inside the car.
