Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
Hey guys, this is my first post but I'm hoping to be a long time member of this forum as I am at other forums for different cars I own.
At the moment, I'm involved in trying to wire up a basic alarm(Viper 211HV)in my 92 LX. I'm still in the process of it but I think I've got most everything figured out. So my question is, can you guys think of a reasonable way of wiring the auxiliary feature on the alarm into my headlights(preferably the brights if possible)so that when I hit the AUX button on the remote, my brights come on and when I hit it again, they go off. I'm not concerned about time delay or any of that stuff. I just want to be able to put some lights on things when I want to, using the remote(like when I come home at night and things like that).
I know the standard usage of the AUX feature is trunk pop but I don't feel like wiring up an actuator nor do I really even care about it.
Anyways, thanks in advance...looking forward to what you guys might have in mind.

Re: Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
Welcome!! I thought about doing this with mine but havn't yet. I have a Python Remote Start so it should work similiar to your viper. First you need a SPST 30 amp 12V relay. Wire up pin 30 and 85 to + 12v (the battery would be good). Then hook your aux wire from you alarm (I am assuming its negative triggered (-)) to pin 86. This will trigger the relay. Finally hook pin 87 of the relay to either the headlight switch or the headlight harness. If you hook up to the headlight harness you will need 2 relays, one for each headlight. Each 30 amp. After everything is hooked up you will need to change the settings in the alarm to make the aux output "latch" instead of pulse. It should latch with one press, then un latch when you press it again. I can draw you a small diagram if that would help.

A diagram would be awesome if you have the time.
I really appreciate it.

Re: Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
Yes it would be possible to hook into that switch. You should be able to get it when it comes down under the steering column. If your able to, then the one relay would be enough. Do you have a multimeter? I don't know what color wire you will need to hook into, so you might have to check with a meter. I only know for the 7th gen. Ill post a diagram for the relays when I get a chance.
Edit: Here is the relay diagram. My scanner is not working so I had to take a pic of it. The dotted line is the second one if you need it.

Ah, gotcha. No I don't have a meter, unfortunately. I'll be sure to pick one up soon though. So you said it is possible to set the alarm to sustain power going to that switch until I hit the AUX button the second time...might you know how to do that and also what wire is best to use? Here is a link to the install manual for the 211HV...the wire list is on page 4.

Thanks again bud for all your help. I really appreciate it.

Re: Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
Since your alarm doesn't offer a custom output selection for the aux output your going to have to wire in something like this. As is, it will only turn the lights on for as long as the button is pressed. This is what you will need to do:

Re: Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
I found something interesting and I think it might work. I just need to get a meter on the output wire and see what its doing.
Here is a quote from the install guide regarding channel 2 output(which is a negative 200mA output).
"When the system receives the transmitter code controlling Channel 2 for longer than 1.5 seconds, the red/white wire will supply an output as long as the transmission continues."
I'm thinking that this will work and may have been what you were talking about before. I don't mind having to hold down the AUX button in order for it to turn on the lights, in fact its probably a bit better(so I don't risk accidentally leaving them on).
I'm thinking that if I can connect that wire through a relay to the brights switch on the steering column, it SHOULD work. lol
Any thoughts on if its absolutely necessary to use a 30amp relay? It seems that 12v 40amp relays are a dime a dozen in my area and the 30's are pretty hard to come across. Though I don't mind ordering one online if I gotta.
Again, appreciate your help.

Re: Question about AUX options with viper alarm in 92 LX
As long as you don't mind holding the bottom then, yea that will be good. That probably is better, since like you said you cant leave them on. A 40 amp is good just extra protection is all. You possible may not need a relay but it's a good idea to use one since we don't know how much current the switch pulls and weather it's hooked to a relay inside the car.
