Odd speaker issue

Alright so here's the deal...

About 2 months ago my speakers all gave out on me. I was sitting somewhere parked when there was a bit of a crackle and then nothing. I've had these speakers in and working for a little over a year when this happened, so I know it wasn't an install issue.

Naturally I figured my speakers were blown so I just rode with no sound for a month or so. Recently I decided to actualy look into the problem and found out that my speakers still work just fine when hooked up to another source.

My jvc deck works just fine...i can scan the radio and cd's play, but there's just no sound at all...not even any distortion.

I'm pretty tight on cash right now so if anyone can offer some DIY troubleshooting I'd appreciate it.

Re: Odd speaker issue

yeah.... i can't think of anything cheaper than buying a cheap head unit. Pull the unit out and smell it with your best sniff... if it smells like it has been set on fire at some point in time your internal amp is fried. That's my best guess. The way it fizzled i'm pretty sure that's your problem unless something is touching metal somewhere?
