Rep Power: 0 Will a 04-05 EM2 center console with armrest fit my 01 EM2
Alright people, I got this problem ... at the moment I have the following (EDM) center console in my 2001 EM2 (the thing inside the yellow ring):
The thing is ... I don't like my center console and I want to swap it with a 2004-2005 center console with armrest:
However, according to 'Gearbox' (a moderator on this forum) ... a 2004-2005 center console won't fit nicely in my 2001 EM2 It will fit in the middel, but apparently there is some difference between the 2001-2003 en 2004-2005 dash ... so if I swap it, there will be a gap between my radio console and center console ...
The thing is ... I'm not convinced yet ... why would the 2001-2003 and the 2004-2005 be different so ... this afternoon I went to a local Honda dealer which has a 2004 ES2 (IMA/Hybrid) for sale ... I measured the space between the radio console and the center console of my EM2 and the one of the ES2 (see the yellow line):
And guess what ... the space between the radio console and the center console in my EM2 and the one in the ES2 where both 10,9 cm ... of course, both cars are EDM ... and I want a USDM center console ... but still ... in my country there is no difference between the center console of a 2001-2003 and 2004-2005 EM2 ...
So can someone please give me some more information? I really want a USDM center console with armrest, but without a nasty gap!!

no i did not mean gap between those arrows. i meant between the lower console and the trim piece below the radio (usually where the 12v socket is). this piece is different on the 01 civic, 02 civic, and 03 civic.
for example here is an 02 civic socket trim (hybrid, but same as regular).
this is an 01 and you can see the trim where the socket is doesnt have the same shape at all
our ashtray and lighter option comes in two different models depending if you have an 01 or an 02 (not available for 03+).
i did find some interesting threads here from the past. seems like there is some extra cutting required, the console does not sit perfectly centered, and you need a 12v socket trim piece from an 02 civic to eliminate that gap i was talking about.

the main problem seems to be that you need to cut and modify the old handbrake to fit. the new 04-05 handbrake wont bolt into the proper spot without changing its location. so basically you will need to do some custom modding.

Aah oké, now I understand what you mean ... well ... I'm convinced ... I guess that center console with armrest has to wait for a while first I need to think this over, because I'm not very good at 'modding'

I have a 2001 that I got a center console with arm rest from a 2004 & I’m making a YouTube video, it will work you just have to change brake handle & bracket. The old handle will not let it slide forward, 2 different designs. I noticed a misleading statement & tried it anyway to find it will swap out.
