Does SRS activation save a record?
Ok, so I got into an accident a few weeks ago when a guy pulled out from a stop sign right in front of me. Both passenger and driver airbags went off, even though I estimated I was only going 20-25 right before the crash.
Fast forward to now, and the other driver's insurance company is claiming they are only covering 50% of my damages (2 weeks off work + other expenses) because I was speeding (speed limit in the area is 20 mph).
So now that you have my sob story, my question: Will the SRS system save various parameters when it is activated? I know this happens if the check engine light comes on, and one of the parameters is the vehicle's speed at the time. Will the SRS system do something like this as well? Car was a 2003 EX, if that helps.

yes it does, but they are harder to read and i think only a honda dealer can pull them. and im sure you already know, airbags can get set off at low speeds i think the lower legal limit is 17mph but you may want to check. sounds like insurance company is going to court and losing. they just dont wanna pay out. usually your own insurance will be more than happy to go after the other side if they will collect. seems like an easy case and they are just playing around when it was the other drivers fault.

Re: Does SRS activation save a record?
So I called a couple Honda dealers nearby, one said that they weren't able to access that information, but the police were. Another said they could only access the information if there was a court order. Weird. My insurance was getting impatient considering I had signed over the title and received payment for it a while before, so let them have it.
Other driver's insurance provider has a pretty weak argument. I didn't know how fast I was going right before the accident, but I told the cop I had just shifted into third. I also explained that when I don't have to accelerate quickly (this was on a small access road), I'll short shift. Apparently he called a Honda dealership and they said recommended speed for shifting into third was 27 mph. So that's what he reported.
Thanks for the info, hopefully I'll never need to be in this situation again.
