horizontal throttle body
horizontal throttle body
is there manifolds that will allow you to mount the throttle body horizontally?
I really dislike the vertical mounting of the original body. it makes strutbars+large intakes nearly impossible.

Re: horizontal throttle body
It already is mounted horizontally- you mean vertically? You could use a D16y8 manifold. you need to hack the runners and weld the D17 injector plate on. Keep an eye on firewall clearance. Then all you gotta do is figure out an intake.
All the strut bars made for our cars fit with where the TB is- its your intake design that limits you.

Re: horizontal throttle body
It does sit vertically, Triz is confused...
I believe the manifold off the 6th gen civic will bolt on there and make the throttle body sit horizontally. Though you are going to need a new throttle body and filter I believe.

Re: horizontal throttle body
Gotta love the space saving design of the 7th gens. I wouldnt go and change the TB. There are lots of intake + strut bar setups that do work and a lot of them are posted on here. Besides, you won't get much power gain from a large intake. In fact you won't get a lot of power gain from any intake, just make sure you buy one designed for the 7th gen.

Re: horizontal throttle body
He asked about how it mounts, not how it flows... Stock, all the screws that mount the TB are flat on the horizon and bolt it to the intake manifold, air flows down into the intake manifold. If you mount it on the side, the TB would be mounted vertically, and would flow horizontally.

Re: horizontal throttle body
Exactly. That being said, his options are the D16y8 manifold and throttle body or the skunk2 D16y8 manifold and stock D16y8 TB... he has to have an injector plate from a D17 intake manifold and have it welded to the D16 manifold w/ hacked runners. Then he can pull this off. In fact, the stock TB might still work.

Re: horizontal throttle body
Oh the D17 didnt get any love. Its all for the D16s and D15s most likely. Link me to where on there site it says D17 IM and I'll buy it, for suggested retail

They dont hate.
The engine is optimal already. You can't add 5% more power to something that is running as close as it can get to 100%
Except turbocharging... but that's another story.
