My First Civic, Where to start?
My First Civic, Where to start?
Hi everyone. so i went from a 89 ford ranger to my 01 Civic LX sedan. it's cheery in comparison. It's all stock except for a crazy amount of tint and some 17in Enkei rims. (not too familiar with mods and stuff but i wanna have fun) 120k but about 1k on a rebuilt engine. non V-TECH :[ These are the Necessity's i need to take care of:
Fan belt (or i guess its the serpentine belt)
and some clips for the front bumper, its missing some.
i think i'll buy a manual and do the belt myself. is it easy?
after that i want to do my air intake. i was almost set on a k&n just for the hell of it. but then i read some stuff on short ram or something. whats the better deal? K&N CAI or a short ram whatever its called. i'll probably to some more research.
so where else should i go for other mods after that?

Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
I say don't waste your money on a Intake. There is no point other than sound, and if you want sound just remove the resonator box and have fun with that for a while!
Looking at your car I can make two recommendation on where your money can go first. 1. Fix those fogged up headlights
2. Repair that dent on the back of the bumper
3. Wax and polish that baby to make that white sing!
Optional but cheap! Add some fog lights!
Oh and do you really like that racing stripe? It urks me...

Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
ok lol resonator box sounds fun. i've ordered a manual that should be coming in today. the resonator box is the big thing above the battery attached to the intake im thinking?
we've actually beat out alot of that dent in the back. it looks like the previous owner punched it...... ha.. ok. and the scrape should be easy. bondo and paint?
for the fogged lights i'm planning on trying to buy one of those kits or chemicals or whatnot to polish it out. im probably going to do boh too.

Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
Well I have a 2002 Honda Civic DX, (de-badged). I lowered it 2" with a set up Skunk 2 lowering springs. I did the install myself, (this picture shoes it before i did the drop) I still have my stock "steelies" for now. I want to get a set of 17" rims but i haven't found a set i like. I have 20% window tint on all windows with a tint strip. But im getting ready to change my front windows to 35% due to getting tired of getting pulled over.
I also did an HID headlight bulb conversion to a 10k 35w bulb with an aftermarket JDM headlight assembly. I also have a short ram cold air intake on it. Last edited by 02Hondadx; Aug 9, 2009 at 11:24 PM.
Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
ugh, stripes.
if its a vinyl racing stripe that is stuck on, get your mom/sister/gf/tranny next doors hair dryer and just heat it up. it will take about 5-10 min per side to get it off.
as for the intake, if you go with a cold air intake, its a risk of sucking up water and bending rods. you are not going to gain really any power from a cai or a sri, so i would say play it safe and go with the sri since it sits way up higher in the engine bay. they are also positioned in from the grill somewhat, so they still do get a pretty good amount of air flow. as for brands...you will not notice a difference from an ebay 20$ intake compared to an aem 300$ intake, so save yourself the money and order an ebay short ram intake, then go out and buy an aem dryflow filter. install the ebay intake with the aem filter on it and youre rolling. take the ebay filter and put it on the front of your mountain bike or something.

Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
How do you fix the fogged up headlights? I have the same problem with my 2000 EX and i really hate it. i've been looking a new headlights but can't afford them right now. If you know how to get the fogged look out of them please tell me. it'll save me.
Re: My First Civic, Where to start?
Maguiar's plastix will do wonders for oxidized headlights. They'll look like new. Rule #1: never use 409 or anything like that. It will permanently fog the headlights.
hmm.. nice ride! I put in the AEM Short Ram air intake on my 2004 Civic EX.. I loved the difference it made but didn't really feel a power boost at all. But if you get that than you should buy the AEM dry flow air filter because it doesn't require it to be re-oiled when cleaning it. I don't know what you like, but I put in a slim PS2 and got an indash monitor. LOL i don't really play it much, but it was fun to install and people riding with me like it. I put in red led's in my air vents with the StreetGlow music module thing that pulsates to my music.. (or to the vibrations of my bass actually) I would first get an audio system if you don't already have one.. but you should look at the DIY section.. I found a lot of cool easy mods. Your choices are endless.. just do whatever you want! I found some fog lights at http://www.k2motor.com/lfcv04amoem.html.. i don't know how official or OEM/JDM they are but they look good to me and WAY cheaper than some sites I've seen.. Anyways do whatever your into.. I just like customizing my car on a budget lol and have fun doing it!
