EJ1 problem..

Well, I have a 94' EJ1, it's my first car and for some reason, it won't go past 100 MPH, and when it hits 100 MPH, the RPM gauge kinda just shuts off and the car just cruises at 100 MPH. I know I have a blown head gasket and I'm going to replace it, but does this have anything to do with why it won't go past 100 MPH? Or are there any other reason why this happens? Help please?

lol @ ezone.. kinda what i was thinking. You have a honda my friend, not a racecar. and where i live the highway is 70mph. but anyways, i really cant talk; i have raced my car around before. IMO civics like to get to a 100mph fast, but not go much more, just as it sounds yours does! lol i really wouldnt be pushing it when you know you have a blown head.. NOT a good idea! thanks for the link BIG E!

Re: EJ1 problem..

The speed limit is 70 MPH.. Could it be the blown head gasket that restricts me to go faster than 100 MPH? I know I shouldn't be doing that haha but I push the pedal all the way down, and once it's at 100 MPH, it just stays there and the RPM's go from revving and rising to zero. It doesn't even near the redline

Re: EJ1 problem..

It ain't a race car, it's an econobox. Be glad it can do more than the speed limit.

The speed could be governed/limited by the ECM (IDK for sure). Some cars that are much faster than a Civic have limited vehicle speeds due to tire speed ratings.

Maybe it doesn't have enough power to overcome aerodynamic drag.
