Vtec Solenoid question

Vtec Solenoid question
If i buy, say a D16Y8 head that DOES NOT come with the vtec solenoid, do i need to find a vtec solenoid that is compatible with the y8 or will any vtec solenoid work? obviously i'm a noob so please bear with me

solenoids are different shapes and sizes depending on the engine. the oil pressure switch on it can also be different.
