A couple of weeks ago driving my 94 civic DX (99,500mi - 1.5, 16 valve engine) on the freeway the car died on me. I found I had a bad distributor. I found a replacement from a U-Pull-It place. I removed the old distributor and as I was getting ready to replace it with the other one (also from a 94 civic DX - w/1.5 16 valve engine) I noticed the distributors where not the same (see attached photos). The distributor in my civic had a square type box with a positive and negative connection with a stem on it with a spring on the top of the stem. Figuring this was needed I rewired the replacement distributor to have this box in the replacement. I attempted to start the car after replacing the distributor (i also got new plugs, wires, cap and rotor). Car tried to start a couple of times then when completly dead (no start, no lights no nothing). I figured it was a fuse, so I check fuses and I did not find any bad fuses. Assuming the square box from the distributor was the problem, I removed it and rewired the replacement distributor back to its original form. Car still has no power, no lights, no nothing. Am I missing a step somewhere? I'm a house mechanic (which is to say I am no mechanic at all) but I do learn from trial and error (lots of these, lol). I cannot get the car any power at all. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK, found a bad fuse (must have missed it) but care will not start, does anyone know what the square box in the distributor is? Do I need it or can I do without it.

I am not positive but I believe that would be the coil pack, and if it is, it is definitely needed for the car to run.
