89 Hatch
89 Hatch
Just picked this thing up, me and my dad have an Auto repair business and a guy wanted to sell it to us, it quit running two years ago and its been sitting since. Got it for $150 with my dads tow bill lol. Its got 349,000 miles!! And has a prior salvage title! It needed a new distributor cap and the fuel pump is on the way. We've had it running and it don't smoke and the oil is clean
Surely been rebuilt/ replaced, but the rest of the car is clean, Its got a brown dash/ interior. Interior is all perfect besides a tear in the drivers seat. It's got a 1.5 Auto, I'm kinda confused about all the D15 16 b 16 etc stuff. lol. I drive a 2wd V8 Dakota. But I really took a likin to this car, Not to worried about cosmetic stuff for now. I know they can get down the road with the right stuff tho. So what would you guys recommend for this thing? Build and turbo the motor in it now? Or do a swap and turbo later on? And I'm not wanting this thing to be stupid fast. Just want something that will get down the road and still get decent mileage! And even if I mod the motor in it now could someone give me info about swapping to a manual transmission? Thanks
Ryan

Re: 89 Hatch
well, i have 1 in mine, and it puts me only 9.8 hp under yours with the comp reprogamed and cold air intake and cat taken out, i dont know too many stock honda civics that spin the tires into 3rd gear and do high 14's in the 1/4 mile, sounds pretty quick to me, and mine only cost me a grand to buy, how much more did u spend than me to get the extra 9.8 hp u have?
Re: 89 Hatch
The whp in my civic bone stock is more than the crank hp in your zc. And you can buy one of my motors for the same price as your zc. Hell you can get a k24a1 for 800 with tranni then pay 300 for the k24a2 cams, rockers, and valvetrain which will be 100 more than your zc and it will putting down over 220 to the wheels and torque over 200. And the compression of this motor is in the low 9's Dont go saying that a d series motor can beat a k cause it wont at all. The setup I am talking bout has no aftermarket parts in it what so ever and no compression change or any of that ****. To get your d to that power you will have to either have to build that d up the *** or turbo.
Re: 89 Hatch
thats great im glad YOU can do that, my ZC (not d) came in the car i bought for a grand, and it does high 14's and for the second time how much did your car cost? if he wanted to hack up his car and do a comlicated swap, he would have asked for the craziest combo out there and he also would have asked how can i spend mega hours transplanting a motor with all the complicated software and have the car sit for a freakin year
while he gets it running he would have asked, but he asked how he can mod the car easily, buy a zc with 30k miles on it, do the swap (which is like swappping a new 1.5 into it) no cutting, hacking, weldin, bracket changes and running a whole new wiring harness in the car, again for a simple way to increase the power for the same price as it would be to prep the 1.5 for a turbo, he can have a strong high revving engine that will handle 200 hp b4 the rods go, cut the cat, get a chip and put a cold air intake in it with a 5 spd from a crx and u have a car that goes pretty damn quick for about 800 bucks, u were right about that, but simple clean and fast, if he wanted a serous project im sure he would get a chevelle or something else that he will see some money back from (not a GRAND like i paid for my 14 second civic that has 160 hp at the crank and is fun as HELL!!)
PS, u wont get me saying that my 20 year old engine will beat a V-Tec bud, but ill bet my 30 year old chevy blazer will beat your honda

Re: 89 Hatch
The funny thing you do not have to cut to swap in a k. There is plenty of room for it. And I know guys that swapped in a k in like a day. There are alot of things you have to buy to swap in the k but it will always surpass what ever else you got of hoinda unless its like a j or a c swap. And it doesnt matter if your blazer can beat me. This is not a blazer vs civic battle. This thread is he is wanting a good swap and I told him. He could swap in a k and be stock with over 200 hp.
And if you really want your blazer to get spanked bring it on buddy. I got a ranger waiting for it.

Re: 89 Hatch
Nice brown EF, I have a 92 Dakota 3.9 tuckin 275's 2wd and I just picked up a 90 civic si with a turd of a d15b2 for lets just say a GOOD deal but have some problems with it diying on me only when drivin, she'll stay running forever at idle but once she get about 3 blocks away she takes a dump and wont start for the life of her. Once home she'll fire right back up and sit there like a bitch running fine.
Re: 89 Hatch
jesus h christ, u guys should really look at what he is askin, he doesnt want anything crazy fast, he just wants something that gets good milage and better power, but i had sugested a zc, wires right up and bolts right up of course he can spen a bunch of time rewirind and moving mounts and all that crap (sounds like i am repeating myself i know
but it seems i am not getting through to these guys) 160 hp for less than a grand and the motor is RUNNING, not just in the car but RUNNING in a weekend and wiring bulshit and ano mounst to *** with and not CV shafts to *** with, i really dont give a ****, i have a 14 second car for a grand with a ZC in it, and the #'s speak fairly loudly for the lil motor, btw, blazer= 450 rwhp before 250 shot with nitrous forged internals, and no track #'s because i dont want to be banned from the track for not having a roll cage, and i love eating 5 liter fords, like i said if he wanted something crazy, he would have asked h"ey guys how can i sink 2g's and 3 months into a car that aint worth **** when im done?"
