93 Civic DX Lost Power On Highway...
Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully learn a thing or two.
My 93 Civic lost power today on the highway while going 65mph. It was all of a sudden with no warning. I got lucky and was barely able to coast into the parking lot of a store.
Trying to start the engine results in the starter motor turning over and over, just no igniton. The battery works fine, but is a little weaker now from the multiple start attempts.
I decided to change the spark plugs for a start. Got the proper NGKs to install with the anti-seize on the threads and the conductor paste on the top.
After the NGKs were installed, I tried starting the engine again. Just like before, no ignition.
I had my friend listen to make sure the fuel pumps makes a whirring sound as it comes on, then stops. He said he heard the noise, but I guess I will check that for myself as well tomorrow.
Maybe a faulty fuel pump relay? I will test that out tomorrow too
I figure we will make sure we are actually getting a spark at the plugs, and that the pump is working, and go from there.
After that, what do you guys suggest?
I took a look under the distributor cap and everything looks good, but I know that is not a sure sign everything is working fine, so I guess I will do some electrical tests if I need to.
Am I going about this in the right order? I am hoping to get the car fixed by noon tomorrow, before I have to take it to a mechanic. I drive my car all day for work, and if it's a quick fix that would be great!
Chris

Re: 93 Civic DX Lost Power On Highway...
Update: problem fixed.
We removed the ICM and brought it to autozone to have it tested. It failed so I bought a new one. Sweet, problem solved!
After installing the new ICM, it still would not fire up. So we removed the coil and brought that to autozone. The resistance test turned out fine, so we went home.
My dad just so happens to have a '95 Civic EX, so I did a little testing. Installing my old coil in his car resulted in nothing. His coil worked fine.
Back to my car to test his coil in my car. Success!
So hopefully anyone in a similar situation as mine can benefit from this.
