computer port problems??
computer port problems??
My daughters 1999 civic ex has the check engine light on. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts and they couldn't get their machine to hook up under the dashboard. he said he couldn't get a reading and thought that there might be a problem between the port and the actual computer. Does this make sense? I'm going to take it to another auto parts place where they can test it just to make sure.
In the mean time, I did check the gas cap and it is tight. I just disconnected the battery to reset it
A month later...the light is back on.
Any suggestions?

Doesn't really do any good to guess until you know what codes it has.
Have you tried different code readers yet?
What exactly is happening when the code reader doesn't read? Does it not power up when connected, blown fuse style?

Re: computer port problems??
The guy really couldn't get it to read anything. He said there was no information getting to his computer thing. He then told me that there was a main computer that a dealer could access (but at a high cost). I am not interested in taking this car to a dealership. I am going to try a different Advanced Auto Parts or maybe an Autozone
