96 Civic questions
96 Civic questions
Hey guys, got a few questions.
first one, found battery hook up's in the trunk? positive was cut, and leading nowhere and neg. went to a metal hook. anyone know what that was for? cause I have a battery in the front?
Also when I turn (anyway, left or right) it makes like a loud clanking, (clank clank clank clank clank clank) any help?
and my last question, when I first got it, last month, I was getting close to 40mpg. Now i am getting.... 10mpg or worse.? never heard that about a honda. but yes.. roughly 10 mpg!!!! and no leaks that i have found.

Maybe it's haunted?
roughly 10 mpg
Show your work on the side of the paper.
How bad does it run?
What codes are in it?
Are you letting it idle for hours at a time or something?
Re: 96 Civic questions
Could it be the clock spring in the wheel? Or does it sound like suspension?
X2 on the amp in the trunk that would be my guess without pics
Yes how are you determining mpg?

I'm in school right now, I'll try to get more info soon.
But i filled my tank and wrote down the mpg. and drove till it was about half way and filled it again, Then took how many gallons i put in. did the same thing.
did miles A - Milesb / Gallons. - I noticed my truck was getting better gas miles.. I drive normal too

Each single fillup can give widely variable fill levels depending on where the pump shuts off and if you click to the next couple dollars, which affect your individual calculations.
Re: 96 Civic questions
I always try to fill it up as much as I can. and I go to the same gas station every time. But i'll keep checking.
anyways, I filled it to the top. and drove 86 miles. and it's already at about half way, My truck and mustang would still be close to full. Tank size is however much bigger on the truck, but not much bigger on the stang.

Re: 96 Civic questions
Gasoline comes out of the ground at something like 55 degrees or so, and expands as it warms up in your gas tank. (I know it's winter there so it's not as big a deal right now, but engine heat can warm the fuel in the tank too.)
The tank system is designed to have an air pocket at the top to allow for expansion and you defeat that when you try to fill it to the top.
Quit when the pump clicks off.
If you want to let it click off one more again just to make sure it wasn't a false click off, fine.
#1 Fuel can be wasted when you overfill the tank. Excess could be pushed out to the ground through the canister system, and/or flood the canister. It can even cause codes on some cars.
#2 Letting the pump click off by itself gives some consistency to the amount of filling.
Using the same station and same nozzle each time is good..... But even sticking the nozzle in at a different angle can make a difference in when it clicks off.
96, Michigan.....You sure that tank isn't rusted out and leaking?

If you are doing what I think you are doing, that'sprobably too full.

and I'll let it stopp on it's own and try to use the same pump too. lol I haven't been smelling gas but I'm sure it has to be leaking or something odd is up. (Scanned the computer for codes and not one comes up)
Thanks for all your help btw!
