need advice on 98 hatch purchase.
Hello guys i've been looking to buy a civic hatchback for daily driver. It's hard to find a clean one. I've been waiting for the right one and lurking around craigslist. it seems like I might have found a decent condition hatch. driver says its his daily driver and no problems a/c working ecu isn't throwing any codes. I'm going to check it out this weekend as its a 4 hour drive from my location. I've never bought a second hand car before. it's a 98 hatch. Can you guys shed some advice on what I should be looking for and advice on how to handle the purchase as far as paper works etc..thanks in advance.

manual or automatic? Base model (dx) or ?? EX? Si?
6th gen were considered to be generally well built. One thing I read before I bought mine was wiper motor..so test that your wipers work in all settings (and there are a lot on this Civic).
If it was me I'd be looking for any modifications....lowered, cold air intake, etc. (deal breaker for me BTW) then tires for uneven wear....drive it do some circles left and right listening for suspension noise...checking for warning lights etc at the same time. Pop the hood look for any leaking/dirty fluids....listen for unusual engine noise. Then me being me I have an OBD II scan tool that I would plug into the car and see what that had to say....then tell the owner the car is junk and offer them 1/2 to 2/3 what they were asking for it.

it is a 1998 civic DX, it has about 250k miles. I did the car fax and the vehicle came out with 7 owners and a couple of accidents. I'm going to be looking at the vehicle later this morning. Can I take this to a local auto parts store and see if I can pull out any codes? his listed mods are:
99-00 ac control panel

coil overs (brand not noted)
read disc conversion
camber kit all around (brand not noted)
short shifter
aem cold air intake

Si side skirts
