Maintenence Concerns For 248k miles

I'm buying a one elderly owner 2000 DX sedan with very high miles. It was well maintained. Timing belt every 100k, so it's not due for 50k miles or so.
The only thing I plan on doing is switching the gauge cluster to a CRV one, so I gain a clean looking tach and amber color.

My questions are:
With 248000 miles, should I be changing the oil every 3500 miles? I've read Honda recommends 10000 mile OCI which seems way too high to me. Also, should I be replacing the plugs, wires, belts, etc sooner?

Finally, should I use top notch plugs and full synthetic oil? I plan on keeping it 5-30 like it says, unless heavier is better for so many miles. Plus it gets pretty cold in winter.

I've never owned a car with so many miles, thanks for the help!!

Probably a D16Y7 engine - I have one. They have a good track record for going high miles. I know of quite a few high mileage ones around me and they all sound good, look good and from what I understand don't burn/leak. Users manual was 3500 miles for oil change I'd stick to that with a conventional oil or blend if it's cheap. I don't use full synthetic because it's too expensive to change at 3500 and I'm not comfortable going longer on an oil change. I use the standard 5w30 and have no leaking/burning issues but on any car that's unknown to you keep an eye on the oil for awhile. You can test plug wires with a multimeter if you want to check them. In fact you should at least inspect everything you rattled off there. First year I had my car I took it entirely apart. Inspected steering, suspension, tires (constantly), brake lines, components, ALL fluids (constantly once a week or more). I have done all the interval maintenance on mine for the past 3 years and it still runs like a new car. I have the same argument for the spark plugs as syth oil. I like to change the plugs in my car once and a while and it's super simple on this car.

I personally wouldn't worry about the mileage on that car at all if it seems to be in good operating condition.

The first thing I did on mine was a cluster swap as well and it's laughably easy.

Thanks! All that makes me feel better about it.
I'll just pick up Castrol High Mileage and NGK Vpower plugs, seems to be favorable for these engines. Hopefully I don't get the wires confused with the gauge swap and there's a harness for the tach!

Always NGK for plugs. Castrol is what I use, good oil!!

I do prefer synthetic for the extra mileage protection, but that is me. 10K can easily be reached by todays oil standards, much better then they were back in the day.

Do you have pics of this swap Before/After? What year CRV do you get the cluster from?

These are the best pic I have of mine. I just ordered it from my local junk yard but it's a civic cluster w/tach. Make note as well if the CRV redline is the same as what your driving. There's a FAQ just search 'cluster swap' you'll find info here....

Unfortunately the guy decided he didn't want to trade. However I'm not giving up on getting a Civic!
