Transmission interchangeability

I'm replacing the auto trans on my 97 LX Civic. The salvage yard gave me a trans from a 2000 civic. Seems like that should have been ok based on Wikipedia, but it's a little different.

It should bolt up, BUT the 2000 is missing some sensors, like the countershaft speed sensor. Also, the kickdown is mechanical on the 2000, but electronic on the one in the 97.

So, can anyone explain why these are different? And what trans I should be looking for? Is the difference y7 vs y8?

Thanks for any insight.

Re: Transmission interchangeability

Take it back to the yard. You apparently don't have the right trans.

Take your old trans with you so they can see the differences.
