Rep Power: 0 No CEL with Key-On/Engine Off - New Buy
Greetings all,
I just bought a 96 Civic DX Hatch Automatic. It is tagged for another year, drives great. Good sounding engine, smooth shifting. Odometer says 178,xxx but guy said the motor has 128,xxx.
It has what looks like a cold air intake, but all else all looks normal. I had to replace front rotors and brake pads, other than that everything is good.
When I drove it home, mpg seemed not to good or average. I changed oil to full synthetic, and replaced the NGK spark plugs, now MPG seems great.
But I just noticed that when I turn the key to ON, but engine off, all the normal dash lights, (Battery, oil, SRS etc) come on, but the CEL does not.
I am worried maybe the previous owners disabled it to sell it. Totally didnt notice that when checking it out. Yet the car drives great.

You can take out the cluster gauge pull out the bulb from the oil and switch it with the cel bulb and see if the bulb is bad or if he fkd with the cluster to not get it to work.
