Had to put an LX head on an EX VTEC CEL help
Last time I was on this forum it was 7thgencivic.com
Its funny how you go from owning a civic as your 1st car, to turbocharging the civic, to selling the civic, to fixing one for a family member lol.
Anyways...
So.. My brother in law ran his 2000 civic EX out of oil on a 105 degree day and siezed the camshaft. This led to a broken timing belt, bent valves, me laughing my *** off, etc.
I wanted to just drop in a rebuilt D16y8 like the one the car came with, but had no luck finiding one that was with in his budget. I did manage to find a 20k mile rebuilt head with a fully assymbled valve train and cam. When I was swapping over the cam gear I noticed that this was a Civic LX head (no VTEC). All of that generation D series blocks are pretty much the same. So rather then waste another week trying to get parts I installed the head with a new OEM head gasket and new OEM head bolts. I had allready inspected the bottom end, there was still enough oil in the pan to lubricate the main bearings and cylinder walls.
I was missinformed that the VTEC pressure sensor was an on/off type when its infact a variable ohm load type.
I had wired up the VTEC solenoid wire to a relay that closed the contacts on the pressure switch buts useless when the ECU is looking for (X) value @ idle and (y) value when the solenoid engages.
So anyone with a honda civic and a multimeter want to give me some ohm values
Im sure I can trick this damned thing with a relay and 2 resistors.
Or if anyone has another sugestion im open to ideas

Re: Had to put an LX head on an EX VTEC CEL help
Well I descided to try a few resistors while I was waiting on a reply. Looks like 150 ohms does the trick. No CEL after a few 6500RPM plus 2nd gear pulls.
