Aftermarket Button on my shifter
Hello All,
I work for a towing company and we got in a 00 Civic with a D15 from a 95 in it. It has a rebuilt motor and tranny in it so i ouwld like to keep it for myself (if i can get it smogged in CA). It has an aftermarket push button zip tied to the shifter. The wires run to the motor to a blue round solinoid type piece (pictures attached). My ? is what the heck is this for? With the engine idleing if you push the button it kinda bogs down.

Oh NOW I see the pics. Your other thread didn't show pics.
------------------------------------------------
Your car has been riced.
That's the VTEC solenoid (looks aftermarket? I don't remember a double solenoid on them, but it's been a while since I've seen one that old.)
My guess: The PCM and/or the car may have never had a VTEC engine, so the kid wired up his own switch to run it.
Try not pushing the button until after you hit like 4000 RPM with the gas pedal floored.
Good luck with the smog. Better check the engine swap rules before you spend any money on this.

That's the most ghetto out thing I seen so far instead of just doing a mini me d16y7 to d16y8 swap he forces the engine to undertake the VTec with out self engine management. In the hands of a kid or anyone playing with the car you can warp the engine
